Toyota has fitted the 2027 RAV4 Woodland with a new suspension that raises ground clearance to 9.1 inches, against 8.1-inch on every grade except the GR SPORT. The company also added a North American Charging Standard (NACS) port to every plug-in hybrid (PHEV) grade, according to its announcement from Plano, Texas on Nov. 5, 2026.

Hybrid (HEV) models are expected at United States dealerships later this year, and PHEV models in early 2027. Toyota gave no dates or prices for other countries.

What is new on the 2027 RAV4 Woodland?

Toyota says the Woodland grade gets new springs, shocks and jounce bumpers, which is where the extra clearance comes from. It also gets redesigned all-weather floor and cargo mats.

The Woodland is available as an HEV or a PHEV, and Toyota lists this standard equipment:

  • Electronic on-demand all wheel drive
  • All-terrain tires on 18-inch matte metallic gray alloy wheels
  • Rigid Industries LED fog lights
  • Roof rails with cross bars and a tow hitch receiver
  • A 120V/1500W AC power outlet in the cargo area
  • Panoramic View Monitor with Multi-Terrain Monitor

On all-wheel-drive models, a Multi-Terrain Select system with Rock & Dirt and Mud & Sand modes replaces the old Trail mode. Snow mode now sits on the drive mode switch next to Normal, Eco, Sport and Custom. Every grade also gains a backup camera washer.

What changes for plug-in hybrid charging?

Every 2027 RAV4 PHEV now has a NACS port with DC fast charging (Level 3), and the charging port moves to the left, driver’s side. The onboard AC charger for Level 1 and 2 is now 11-kW on all PHEV grades. Toyota says the NACS port improves charging convenience and compatibility in North America.

The PHEV uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motors and makes 321 total system horsepower. Toyota’s all-electric range estimates are:

PHEV grade EV range (miles) Combined MPG
SE AWD 52 41
XSE AWD 50 39
Woodland AWD 46 37
GR SPORT AWD 45 37

The Woodland HEV is rated at 40 city, 35 highway and 38 combined MPG, and the Woodland PHEV at 38 city, 35 highway and 37 combined MPG. These are manufacturer estimates. Toyota also extends the Remote Connect trial from 1 year to 5 years on all grades.

How much does the 2027 RAV4 cost?

Toyota lists a starting MSRP of $32,300 for the hybrid LE FWD and $42,100 for the PHEV SE, in United States dollars and excluding the Delivery, Processing and Handling fee. The announcement does not give a Woodland price, and it names no prices outside the United States.

What have other outlets said about the Woodland?

Car and Driver tested the 2026 RAV4 Woodland PHEV and recorded 5.2 seconds to 60 mph in its own test. That was before the 2027 suspension change, so the figure says nothing yet about how the new setup drives or rides.

Who it suits

Trail and camping drivers. The extra clearance, all-terrain tires, roof rails and tow hitch receiver are aimed at gravel roads and campsites rather than serious rock crawling, though Toyota states no off-road figures beyond clearance.

Plug-in buyers who rely on public fast charging. A NACS port opens DC fast charging at stations that use that standard, which is the main practical gain for 2027. Toyota does not state a peak charging speed.

Owners of earlier RAV4 PHEVs. The changes are tied to the 2027 model year, and the release does not mention any update for existing cars.

Shoppers on a budget. The hybrid is the cheaper way in, with the Woodland HEV rated at 38 combined MPG, while the PHEV adds electric range for a higher starting price.

What is still unknown?

Toyota has not published a Woodland price, a DC fast charging power figure or arrival dates for individual dealers. Markets outside the United States are not covered in the announcement.
