Toyota has added a factory overlanding package called Trailhunter to the 2027 Sequoia, and the updated full-size SUV carries a starting MSRP of $69,900, according to Toyota’s announcement from Plano, Texas on November 4, 2026. Every 2027 Sequoia uses the same hybrid powertrain and gains new trailer assist features.

Toyota says the updated Sequoia is expected to reach dealerships in the fall of 2026. The release also brings a sharper front end, a standard 14-inch screen and a new rear seat reminder.

What does the Sequoia Trailhunter include?

Trailhunter is built on the SR5 grade and is aimed at families who want to head off the grid without adding aftermarket parts. Toyota lists this equipment:

  • Old Man Emu upgraded suspension
  • An underbody skid plate and front recovery hooks
  • Michelin LTX Trail tires, which Toyota Canada’s earlier release listed as size 265/70R18
  • Exclusive bronze-colored wheels and unique badging
  • Crawl Control, Multi-Terrain Select and a locking rear differential

What changes on the TRD Pro?

The TRD Pro gets new Sequoia-specific FOX QS3 adjustable shocks, which Toyota says give stability and customizable damping for desert running or rocky ground. It also gains standard red tow hooks and a new available color called Honeycomb.

How much power and towing does it have?

Every 2027 Sequoia pairs a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 with a motor generator in the i-FORCE MAX hybrid system. Toyota quotes 437 net combined horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque, with a maximum towing capacity of 9,120 pounds.

What is new for towing?

The new Trailer ADAS suite adds four features:

  • Automated Trailer Detection, which uses rear radar and a camera to measure the trailer and fill in the Trailer Garage menu
  • Trailer Blind Spot Monitor, which extends the warning zone to the length of the trailer
  • Trailer Lane Trace Assist, a towing version of lane centering that can handle splitting lanes, uneven roads and some wind
  • An improved Trailer Backup Guide with dynamic guidelines, a slider and semi-automated steering support, which can also help detect jackknife risk

What else is new inside?

A 14-inch touchscreen with 5G connectivity is standard, along with a 12.3-inch digital meter and Toyota Safety Sense 4.0. The standard Drive Recorder dash cam saves 20-second clips and plays them back on the touchscreen.

Advanced Rear Seat Reminder is new for 2027. A radar in the headliner can detect movement in the second and third rows after the driver leaves, and it can escalate from hazard lights and chimes to phone alerts with an active Safety Connect trial or subscription. All grades include a 5-year Connected Services trial for Remote Connect, Safety Connect and Service Connect.

The grades are SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794, TRD Pro and Capstone.

Prices

The only price Toyota gives is a starting MSRP of $69,900 for the updated Sequoia. The release does not break prices out by grade and does not say what the Trailhunter package adds, so check a dealer quote before comparing. No other currency or market is priced in the announcement. Toyota Canada’s July release said full details and pricing would follow in fall 2026, but the sources we read give no Canadian figure.

Warranty terms are a 36-month/36,000-mile basic warranty, with 60 months/60,000 miles on the powertrain. The hybrid battery is covered for 10 years/150,000 miles. ToyotaCare covers scheduled maintenance for one year or 10,000 miles.

Who it suits

Overlanders and campers. The Trailhunter package gives you suspension, skid plate, recovery hooks and all-terrain tires from the factory, which may matter if you want the warranty to cover the setup.

Towing families. The 9,120 pound maximum and the trailer detection, blind spot and backup tools are the headline for anyone pulling a boat or camper, especially people who find reversing a trailer stressful.

Desert and rock drivers. The TRD Pro with FOX QS3 shocks is the more performance focused choice, and Honeycomb is the new color to look for.

Luxury shoppers. Platinum, 1794 and Capstone add leather, a 14-speaker JBL audio system on Platinum and 22-inch wheels on Capstone, so you do not need the off-road trims to get the technology.

What is still unknown?

Toyota has not said what the Trailhunter package costs, how much each grade starts at, or when each market gets the truck. One outlet that covered the July reveal reported that production would start in the fall, so confirm timing with a dealer.
