Assassin’s Creed Valhalla now has New Game+, delivered in a free update called The Most Requested Update. It went live on November 5, 2026 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, according to the PlayStation Blog and Xbox Wire.

The patch also reworks how character power is counted, adds new runes and a stash, and brings an upgraded PSSR image mode that only PlayStation 5 Pro owners get. Ubisoft describes the whole package as a free update.

What does the Valhalla update add?

Ubisoft’s pages list these changes:

  • New Game+, unlocked after you complete the Holy Day Quest, with difficulty that scales up on every new run
  • Mithril, a new resource for upgrading divine gear
  • A higher gear level cap: 27, up from 13
  • Extended Progression Mode, where gear upgrades, runes and masteries all count toward overall power level
  • A stash in Ravensthorpe that stores any piece of gear and any rune from your inventory
  • A Rune Forge update with silver upgrades from the menu, a new Superior tier and over 300 engravable runes
  • New achievements, a new Power calculation, a Master Assassin Naoe outfit and an Animus Hub synchronization update

In New Game+, Xbox Wire says Mithril drops when you receive a piece of gear or use a book of knowledge you already own, and it can also be found in the Nilfheim, Mastery and River Raid shops. Lead Game Designer David Larouche told Xbox Wire that the extended progression, the new rune tier and the extra rune perks are available without New Game+ too.

What does the PS5 Pro PSSR upgrade do?

The upgraded PSSR is a PlayStation 5 Pro only feature. Priscilla Nguyen, Engineering Studio Manager at Ubisoft, told the PlayStation Blog that it replaces the game’s current Temporal Upscaler with a slightly more efficient method that is “much crisper and more visually stable”.

Ubisoft says the goal was better 4K image quality and its Quality mode running at 60FPS on PS5 Pro. The studio did not overhaul content or visual assets. It reused the same upgraded PSSR already in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. These are Ubisoft’s own claims, and no independent performance tests were available when we wrote this.

Which platforms get the update?

Two official pages confirm four consoles:

  • PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro (PlayStation Blog)
  • Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One (Xbox Wire)

Ubisoft’s Valhalla page lists the game on more storefronts and systems, including PlayStation 4, Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store, Amazon Luna and Ubisoft+. It calls the update now available, but none of the pages we read say which of those versions get it. Ubisoft said earlier that full patch notes and current-generation console news would follow.

Ubisoft ties the release to Valhalla passing 40 million players, and says feedback on this update will inform talks about similar updates for other Assassin’s Creed games.

Prices

The update is free, and no sources list a price for it. Xbox Wire’s store panel shows $59.99 and $47.99 for the base game, in dollars with no country or sale end date given. The PlayStation Blog and Ubisoft pages list no game price, so check your own store for the current price in your currency.

Who it suits

Players who finished the story. New Game+ lets you start again with your endgame character, with scaling that rises each run, so it suits anyone who stopped when the credits rolled.

PS5 Pro owners. The upgraded PSSR is for you, and it is worth a fresh look if the original upscaling bothered you. Base PS5 players do not get it, according to the PlayStation Blog.

Build tinkerers on any supported console. The Rune Forge changes, the stash and Extended Progression Mode do not need New Game+, so you can use them in an existing save.

Players on other platforms. If you are on PC or PlayStation 4, wait for Ubisoft’s patch notes before assuming anything, since the pages we read do not confirm those versions.

What is still unknown?

Full patch notes have not been seen in the sources we read, so exact numbers behind the new Power calculation are unclear. It is also unclear which other platforms receive the update, and how much the PSSR change helps in practice.

Next step: open the game on your console, let it update, and finish the Holy Day Quest to unlock New Game+. Ubisoft’s Valhalla page is where the patch notes should appear.
