Pingle Studio has released Traits and Some Magic, a new DLC for its city-building and tower defense game Becastled, according to an October 22, 2026 post on Xbox Wire. The expansion adds a system of more than 40 traits plus two new unit types, Mages and Clerics.
The base game, which carries a list price of $24.99 on its Xbox store listing, has you build a castle by day and defend it by night against the Moon beasts. Deku Deals lists it for Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. The studio’s post does not give a price for the DLC or any Canadian pricing, so check your platform’s store before buying.
Why the studio built the trait system
Game designer Bogdan Pavlenko wrote that players tended to find one strategy that worked on almost any level, which left little reason to use different buildings, units or approaches. The traits are meant to push people to build around the circumstances of each run.
Every few days, and after a Blood Moon, you choose one of three traits. They come in Common, Uncommon and Rare tiers, and rarer options become more likely after a Blood Moon.
The simplest traits give a small economic boost or more unit health. The more interesting ones pair a strong effect with a restriction. Master of the Bow forces you to use only archers but raises their damage a lot. Manifest Destiny lowers mood but lets you acquire several upcoming zones for free. Glass Cannon cuts unit health and raises damage. According to the developer, stacking Glass Cannon with Blood Money and Master of the Bow can produce archers that deal huge damage.
Mages and Clerics
Both new units are recruited from a new Mage School, and both are fragile. Mages deal area damage that can clear groups of enemies in a few attacks, but they die easily, so placement on walls or behind other units matters.
Clerics heal rather than attack. The studio says they are meant to help keep units alive through boss fights and suit players who want to finish the game without losing a unit. They pair well with Swordsmen, though enemy archers can kill exposed Clerics quickly.
What it means for players
If you have already solved Becastled with one favourite build, the traits are designed to disrupt that habit and make each run different. The small team also said the system lets designers add traits without a programmer for each one, and that a planned pre-game modifier feature did not make it into this DLC.
Players in Canada and the US can find the game on the platforms above. Check the store page on your console or PC for the DLC and its current price.
