Apple says developers around the world have optimized their apps and games for iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, and that users can start finding them in the App Store this Friday. The company shared the details in a newsroom update on October 22, 2026.
New editorial collections for iPhone Duo apps and games will go live on the App Store on Friday, and apps that have been optimized carry a Made for iPhone Duo badge on their product pages. Apple adds that more updates will roll out throughout the year.
What the larger screen changes
Apple says the inner display is 50 percent larger than the one on iPhone 18 Pro Max. Both displays share the same aspect ratio, so an app moves from the outer display to the inner one and scales proportionally, letting people pick up where they left off.
On the entertainment side, Netflix lets members scroll through Clips on the outer display and then open the phone to keep watching on the inner display, in a vertical or horizontal view. What’s on Netflix also reported that playback controls move to the lower half when the phone is propped up like a small laptop. Prime Video shows X-Ray details on the bottom half when the phone is partly folded, while Paramount+ adds richer playback controls and wider browsing. MLB and PGA Tour show live games or leaderboards alongside real-time stats.
Work and creative apps
Apple highlights Split View, which lets people open two apps side by side on an iPhone for the first time. In the coming weeks, Microsoft Word and Outlook will roll out layouts that put formatting tools next to a document and the inbox next to a full message. Zoom uses the inner display for shared content and participants at the same time, Slack shows a full workspace, and Salesforce shows more dashboards at once. Fantastical, Things, Bear and Notewise are named among the calendar, task and note apps that use the extra room.
For creators, Instagram shows more posts and Stories at once, and Instagram’s Edits app shows its timeline and editing tools together. VLLO gives video editors more controls and footage on screen.
Gaming
According to Apple, the A20 Pro chip and a custom vapor chamber give iPhone Duo up to 35 percent better sustained performance than iPhone 17 Pro. In Asphalt Legends, players can race more than 350 cars against up to seven online opponents, and Zenless Zone Zero adapts its controls to each way of holding the phone.
What it means for readers in Canada and the US
The Apple announcement does not give Canadian or US pricing, so check Apple’s Canadian and US stores for current prices and availability. The App Store collections and the Made for iPhone Duo badge are the easiest way to see which of your regular apps are ready. Some of the productivity updates, including Word and Outlook, are described as coming in the weeks ahead rather than available on day one, so expect a staggered rollout.
