Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026, and for people who bought the iPhone Duo it is the update that adds Apple Pencil support and a video call lighting feature called Edge Light. The Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, went on sale in Apple Stores on October 23, after pre-orders opened on October 16.

Apple Pencil support

MacRumors reported on October 21 that the iPhone Duo gains Apple Pencil support with iOS 27.2. According to the outlet, the USB-C version of the Apple Pencil can draw, annotate and scroll in supported apps, on both the inner and outer displays. Analyst Max Weinbach confirmed it worked after installing the iOS 27.2 release candidate.

9to5Mac added that Apple had said Pencil support would arrive later this year, and that only the Apple Pencil (USB-C) works. The Apple Pencil Pro and the standard Apple Pencil are not supported. The site also reported the USB-C model on sale for $69 on Amazon at the time, a US price that can change.

Edge Light on the inner display

MacRumors also found that the Duo’s inner display supports Edge Light, an optional setting that first appeared on Apple silicon Macs. During video calls in apps such as FaceTime, it lights the edges of the screen to brighten your face in low light. MacRumors calls it essentially a virtual ring light. The article does not explain how bright it gets or how to switch it on, so check Settings and the FaceTime controls after updating.

Siri AI in more languages

The same 27.2 release widens Siri AI to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, according to Apple’s newsroom. Chinese (traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese are due by the end of the year. Apple lists Siri AI as a beta, and says it is currently unavailable in the EU on iOS, iPadOS and watchOS.

What it means for you

If you own an iPhone Duo, open Settings, go to General and then Software Update to install iOS 27.2. Pencil users should buy only the USB-C model, since the other two Apple Pencil versions are not supported. None of the sources we read gives a Canadian price or Canadian availability for the Duo or for the Pencil, so check apple.com/ca or your carrier. The $69 Amazon price is a US figure from 9to5Mac, and it can change at any time.
