Apple’s first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, is one of the most talked about gadgets this week. Preorders opened on Friday, October 16, and HotHardware reported that the first allocation sold out within minutes, pushing new orders placed directly with Apple into January 2027. The phone reaches stores on Friday, October 23.

What the iPhone Duo is

The iPhone Duo is a book style foldable. Closed, it works like a regular phone with a 5.4-inch outer display. Open, it becomes a 7.6-inch screen that Apple says is 50 percent larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display. Both screens support ProMotion and Always On.

Key specs from Apple:

  • A20 Pro chip built on a 2-nanometer process
  • 48MP Fusion Main and 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide cameras, plus a FaceTime camera under the inner display
  • Grade 5 titanium body, Ceramic Shield 2 on the front and an IP68 rating
  • Up to 24 hours of use per charge when both displays are used equally, according to Apple
  • 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB storage, in star white or night sky

Apple prices it from $1,999 in the U.S. A matching iPhone Duo Case costs $79 and the Folio with Kickstand costs $129, also U.S. prices.

This is Apple’s first foldable, and buyers moved quickly. HotHardware said Apple, quoted by the Financial Times, described preorder demand as “nothing short of extraordinary.” MacDailyNews, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, reported that delivery estimates for every configuration moved into early 2027 shortly after the preorder window opened.

Some retail options come sooner. HotHardware found Best Buy in store pickup dates of November 10 for the 512GB and 1TB models and December 14 for the 256GB and 2TB models, but those units are tied to AT&T or Verizon. Unlocked phones come from Apple or a carrier.

Where it is sold

Apple lists preorders and launch day sales in more than 70 countries and regions, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, the UAE, the UK, the U.S. and Vietnam. A further 28 countries and regions follow on Friday, October 30. Delivery times in each market depend on local stock.

What it means for you

The iPhone Duo suits people who want a tablet size screen for reading, video calls and side by side apps without carrying a second device. At $1,999 in the U.S. it is a big purchase, so it makes the most sense if you will use the large screen every day.

If you want one soon, check the Apple Store app in your country for current delivery dates, compare carrier stock, or try a store on launch day, since HotHardware notes that Apple traditionally keeps some units for walk in buyers. If you are not in a hurry, waiting for the first reviews and for supply to settle costs nothing.
