Tribute Games has laid out how its second DLC for Marvel Cosmic Invasion works. The Siege of Castle Doom launches on November 10, and level designer Kevin Chiasson walked through the design on the PlayStation Blog on October 26.
The pack adds two playable heroes, the Invisible Woman and Doctor Doom, plus a new mode built for repeat runs through Doom’s castle, Doomstadt.
A mode built around Reed and Doom
The mode is organized around the rivalry between Reed Richards and Doctor Doom. According to the developer, Reed guides the heroes by voice-over while Doom mocks their attempt to storm his home.
Two gauges drive the tension. A Siege Gauge fills each time enemies beat the heroes inside the castle, while Doom charges a new device called the Cosmic Inductor to make himself Earth’s Champion. Wins push back: heroes collect batteries that charge a Stabilizer and stall Doom’s progress.
Tribute Games says the mode has more than five times more encounters than the main game, not counting the new events, traps and hazards. Expect harsh blizzards on the Castle Battlements, medieval torture tools in the halls and the treacherous elevator platforms of the Tower of Solitude.
Doors, perks and the lab
Between fights, players pick a path by choosing themed doors:
- Equipment: special powers such as force fields or energy blasts
- Events: an arena where the rules change, with bonuses or penalties depending on the result
- Heal: restores health
- Infinite: grants infinite ammo or infinite focus
- Progression: a random amount of batteries for Reed’s Stabilizer Gauge
Stabilizers let Reed improve a hero through Perks, which branch into Offense, Defense and Tactical. Perks apply to each hero individually, so a squad can split roles. In multiplayer, an MVP system shows statistics for the most effective players.
Collected Stabilizers also unlock a visit to Reed’s Lab. There, players can open new equipment, events and modifiers, and finishing a run unlocks a new palette for the hero.
What it means for readers
The developer’s post confirms the November 10 date but does not give a price. Gematsu notes the base game is out on PS5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC through Steam, though neither source lists which platforms get the DLC on day one. Pricing and availability in Canada and the US have not been announced in the material we reviewed, so check your console’s store page closer to launch.
If you already like the main campaign, this reads like a roguelike style add on rather than more of the same. The pitch is replayability: random doors, build choices and a lab full of unlockables.
