Crimson Desert’s first big paid expansion, Charting the Unknown, went live on October 29, 2026 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere support. It adds ocean exploration, ship building, romance, housing and stronghold management to Pearl Abyss’s open world adventure.
Pearl Abyss announced it on Xbox Wire, and a 5-hour free trial of the base game is running for Xbox players alongside the launch. The base game first arrived in March, and an August free update, Patch Version 2.00, bundled the earlier post-launch work into Crimson Desert Enhanced.
What is new in Charting the Unknown?
The DLC centres on new journeys by land and, for the first time, at sea. Here is what Pearl Abyss lists:
- Three new storylines, one each for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane
- Diving into the sea to find ruins, treasure chests, new creatures and mounts
- Building your own ship to sail the Great Ocean of Pywel
- Deeper bonds with some inhabitants of Pywel, which can lead to romance and marriage
- An upgraded housing system for building a home from the ground up
- Castles you can claim, decorate and, in some cases, run
- The Garden of Trials, a boss gauntlet
What can you do at sea and underwater?
The studio says players can dive into the water and explore an underwater world with ruins and hidden chests. You can also build a ship and set sail across the Great Ocean of Pywel. Ocean travel is something players had asked for, according to the developer.
Other outlets that covered the announcement beforehand also mentioned naval combat. Pearl Abyss has not given a full breakdown beyond what is on Xbox Wire, so treat any detail past the list above as unconfirmed.
How do romance, housing and strongholds work?
Kliff, Oongka and Damiane can each build trust with certain townsfolk, and that relationship may eventually become romance and even marriage. The housing upgrade lets you shape the layout of the interior, plus the walls, windows and other structural pieces.
Selected castles, once liberated, can become yours, with courtyards and interiors you can decorate. You can also lease facilities such as a restaurant or a smithy, assign equipment and comrades, choose which goods to sell and grow the location’s recognition.
What is the Garden of Trials?
The Garden of Trials is a combat challenge where you fight the bosses met across Pywel one after another. Pearl Abyss pitches it at players who want a harder test than the quieter life features.
Prices
The Xbox Wire post does not list a price for Charting the Unknown. Pearl Abyss has not announced Canadian pricing in the material we read. A gaming outlet, Gfinity Esports, reported a price of $24.99 for the DLC, without naming a currency or region, and said it is paid content unlike earlier free updates. Check the Xbox Store listing for the exact CAD or USD figure before you buy.
The Xbox listing on the same post shows the Crimson Desert base game at $69.99, which is a US dollar figure. The DLC needs the base game.
The free trial gives Xbox players 5 hours of the base game. The post says it starts October 29, 2026. It gives the end date as January 7, 2027 in the summary and January 6 in the body text, so check the store page for the exact day.
Who it suits
Players who finished the story. Three new storylines and the sea give returning players a reason to go back to Pywel, and the DLC is built on the Enhanced version of the game.
Builders and collectors. The housing system, castle decoration and leased shops are aimed at people who enjoy spending time between battles.
Boss hunters. The Garden of Trials lets you fight the bosses back to back without long travel.
Who should wait. If you have not started yet, try the 5-hour trial first, since the DLC requires the base game. If the Canadian price matters, wait for the store listing.
What is still unknown?
The post does not give the DLC length, the size of the download, a confirmed Canadian price, or details on the PlayStation and PC release. Patch notes were posted on Steam at the same time, but their full list was not readable for this report.
Next step: read the Xbox Wire post and the Xbox Store page for Crimson Desert Enhanced, where you can start the free trial and see the live price in your region.
