The Nintendo Switch 2 system costs C$679.99 in Canada, up from C$629.99 since September 1, according to Nintendo’s Canadian site. Amazon.ca lists the console at C$679.96 at the time of writing, and it ranks number 1 in Nintendo Switch Consoles there.

For US buyers, the console rose from $449.99 to $499.99 on the same date, and Amazon.com listed it at $499.00 at the time of writing. With holiday shopping close, here is what each price covers and which version makes sense.

What does the Switch 2 offer?

Nintendo’s tech specs list these main features:

  • Screen: 7.9-inch LCD, 1920x1080, with HDR10 and VRR up to 120 Hz
  • Storage: 256 GB internal, plus a microSD Express slot for cards up to 2 TB
  • Battery: 5220mAh, with roughly 2 to 6.5 hours of play depending on the game

How much did the price rise, and why?

Nintendo said it would revise the Canadian price from $629.99 to $679.99, effective September 1. The company told customers that the move responds to changing market conditions, and Thurrott reported that Nintendo expects those conditions to last into the medium to long term. Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch did not change.

Who it suits

Families buying for the holidays: One of the bundles gives you a game and 3 months of online play for less than buying them one by one, according to Nintendo’s own figures. The console already comes with Joy-Con 2 controllers for two players.

Players who want a handheld that docks to a TV: The 7.9-inch screen and the 4K dock output at 60 fps cover both ways of playing. Battery life depends heavily on the game, so check the 2 to 6.5 hours range against your habits.

Shoppers waiting for a sale: Nintendo’s list price is C$679.99, and Amazon.ca sits a few cents below it. The sources do not show any Black Friday cut, so treat any deal as unconfirmed until it appears on a retailer page.

Existing original Switch owners: The original console kept its price, and the new model is the one to consider only if you want the larger screen and 256 GB of storage.

What is still unknown?

Our sources do not list US bundle prices, Black Friday offers or stock levels at Canadian retailers. Nintendo has not said whether further price changes are planned.

Next step: compare the Nintendo Canada price page with the Amazon.ca listing the day you buy, and confirm what is in the box.
