PureCinema, an iPhone and iPad app for searching movies and TV shows, is free on the App Store at the time of writing. Its regular price is US $0.99, according to the site New Mobile Life, which spotted the offer.
The latest version, 1.1, adds a feature that lets you scan an actor’s face to find their name. No end date for the free offer has been published, so the price can change at any time.
What is PureCinema?
PureCinema is a movie and TV database with a personal library built in. The developer, Kyle Wettlin, lists these features on the App Store:
- A searchable database of millions of movies and TV shows
- Face scanning to look up an actor’s name automatically
- A library with a rating system and a watchlist
- Recommendations for your next watch, based on what is in your library
- A one-time purchase model with no subscriptions
- Data stored on your device
The listing places the app in the Entertainment category with a 13+ age rating. It is 35.6 MB and is offered in English, French and Spanish.

Prices
The regular price is US $0.99, as stated by New Mobile Life. The app is now free for a limited time, and the App Store listing shows the price as Free. Neither source gives an end date.
The US dollar figure is the one the source quotes. Prices in other countries may differ, and this story does not convert them.

How do you get it?
- Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad and search for PureCinema from the developer Kyle Wettlin, or use the official listing page.
- Check that the price button says Get and the listing shows Free.
- Tap Get and wait for the download.
The listing says the app requires iOS 18.6 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 18.6 or later on iPad. It also lists support for a Mac with an M1 chip or later running macOS 15.6 or later, and for Apple Vision running visionOS 2.6 or later.
What happens to your data?
The developer’s App Store entry says no data is collected, a statement Apple notes it has not verified. The description says your data stays on the device and is never sent off.
The developer’s privacy policy adds one detail worth knowing. To show movie and TV information, the app sends requests to TMDB, The Movie Database, and those requests can include the text you search for. The policy says the app works without accounts, ads or tracking.

Who it suits
Film and TV fans who dislike clutter. One reviewer on the listing compared it with Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB without the popups or ads, and said it is quick to look up cast information and where to stream a new title.
People who keep a watchlist. The built-in rating system and watchlist give you one place to track what you have seen and what comes next.
Readers who avoid subscriptions. The app is described as a one-time purchase, so the free offer is a chance to try it without paying the regular price.
Privacy minded viewers. Library data stays on the device, with the TMDB lookups described above as the main exception.

What is still unknown
The offer has no published end date, and the sources do not say whether it applies in every country. The listing also has only a handful of ratings, so there is little public feedback yet. Neither source explains how the actor face scan works or how accurate it is.
Next step
Open the official App Store listing and confirm the price still shows Free before you tap Get. If it has changed back, the regular price is the US $0.99 quoted by New Mobile Life.
