Horizon: Calendar Highlights, an iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app that sorts your Apple Calendar events into categories, is free to download through November 30, according to its App Store listing. The Hong Kong site New Mobile Life, which spotted the offer, says the app normally costs US $0.99.

The developer, Steve Villardi, writes on the listing that he made the app for his wife and is now offering it free. It needs no account, and the listing says the sorting runs on your device, so your events are never sent to a server.

What does Horizon do?

Horizon does not replace Apple Calendar. It reads the events you already have, groups them under headings such as Work, Health, Family and Travel, and brings the important ones forward. The listing highlights these features:

  • Every event is sorted into one of 19 categories, and the app learns from your corrections. You can add categories of your own.
  • A dashboard starts with today, showing the weather and what is on now or next.
  • Daily and Weekly Briefings summarize your day and week, and Life Patterns looks back over months at where your time goes.
  • Weekly goals can be set, for example at least 3 workouts a week or at most 20 hours of Work.
  • A Watchlist counts down to a trip, birthday or concert, with a Live Activity on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, and notifications a month, a week and a day out.
  • Find Free Time suggests openings inside the hours you choose.
  • Invitations waiting for a reply sit in one list, with a note when they overlap something you already plan to attend.

Which calendars, devices and extras does it support?

The app works with every calendar inside Apple Calendar, including iCloud, Google, Exchange, Outlook and CalDAV. Duplicate events, such as the same meeting on a work and a personal calendar, are shown once.

  • Platforms: iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. The listing says it is designed for iPad and not verified for macOS.
  • Size: 36 MB, age rating 4+, language: English
  • Widgets for the Home Screen and Lock Screen, plus Siri phrases such as “What’s on my Horizon today?”
  • Nine actions in Shortcuts, Controls for Control Center and the Action button, and Focus filters
  • Reminder timing set per category, such as a week ahead for a trip or 30 minutes before a meeting

The listing’s latest notes describe version 1.12, which adds a Life Patterns widget and a redesigned Apple Watch layout. Version 1.10 added Apple Reminders alongside events and a natural language Quick Add.

Prices

The App Store listing shows the app as Free and states that it is free through November 30. New Mobile Life gives the original price as US $0.99. The listing text we read does not name a storefront or country, and it lists no other currencies, so readers outside the United States should check the price shown in their own App Store. After November 30, the developer has not said what the price will be.

How do you get it?

  1. Open the Horizon: Calendar Highlights page in the App Store on an iPhone or iPad.
  2. Confirm the button reads Get, not a price.
  3. Download it and allow calendar access when asked. The listing says that is all the setup there is.

Who it suits

People with crowded calendars. If work meetings, school dates, appointments and trips all land in one place, the categories and the Weekly Briefing give a quicker read than a plain list. The conflict view is aimed at exactly that situation.

Anyone who wants to protect personal time. Weekly goals and Life Patterns are built for people who want to see whether workouts or family time are slipping, or whether Work is taking more hours than planned.

Apple Watch and widget users. The Watchlist countdown, the Next Event ring and the widgets keep the next event visible without opening the app, which suits people who check the Lock Screen or wrist first.

Privacy minded users. The developer says there are no Horizon accounts and no tracking. That is the developer’s own statement, and the listing’s full privacy details are worth a look before you allow calendar access.

What is still unknown?

The listing shows 5.0 stars from 8 ratings, which is a small sample, so there is little independent feedback yet. Neither source says which countries get the free offer, and the price after November 30 is not stated. The version history also mentions a sister app called Horizon Spend, but no details are given.

Next step

Open the App Store listing before November 30 and check that the button says Get. If you only use Google Calendar in a browser, remember that Horizon reads calendars through Apple Calendar on your device.
