Kanban Notes & Tasks, listed in the App Store as Boardly, is a kanban board and task manager for Apple devices, and it currently shows as a free download. The tip site 流動日報 New Mobile Life reported that the app normally costs US $0.99. The developer, Jakub Kalamarz, has not announced an end date for the free price.

What is free

The App Store listing shows the app as Free, and the Canadian listing also shows a price of zero. The listing does not show any in-app purchases. The developer’s description says there is no subscription and that the app is a buy-once, use-forever product, so there is no recurring fee to expect. The $0.99 regular price comes from the tip article, not from the listing itself.

What the app does

The developer describes Boardly as a project and task planner for personal and team use. These are the main features it lists:

  • Unlimited boards with custom colours and icons, and columns you can drag and drop
  • Auto-generated ticket IDs such as “MAI-1” and four priority levels: Low, Normal, High and Urgent
  • Due dates with Today, Upcoming and Past Due filters, plus estimated and actual hours
  • Unlimited subtasks with progress tracking, item dependencies and board-scoped labels
  • 8 custom field types: Text, Number, Date, Select, Multi-Select, Checkbox, URL and Email
  • Attachments for files, images and PDFs, plus voice recording
  • Full-text search and saved filters

Boards can be shared through CloudKit with read-only or edit permission. The developer says data stays on the device and in iCloud, the app works offline and syncs when a connection returns. The most recent version, 2.3.1, adds Home and Lock Screen widgets, task assignments on shared boards, personal profiles and a faster launch.

Compatibility and privacy

The listing says the app needs iOS 18.0 or later on iPhone, iPadOS 18.0 or later on iPad, macOS 15.0 or later on a Mac with an Apple M1 chip or later, or visionOS 2.0 or later. The page also carries the note that it is designed for iPad and not verified for macOS. The interface comes in English and 26 more languages, including French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.

The developer’s privacy label says no data is collected. Apple points out that this label is supplied by the developer and has not been verified. The app has only 2 ratings so far, both 5.0, which is too few to say much about quality.

How to get it

  1. Open the App Store on an iPhone, iPad or Mac and search for Kanban Notes & Tasks, or look for Boardly by Jakub Kalamarz.
  2. Check that the price button says Get and not a price.
  3. Download the app and sign in with your Apple ID if asked.

What it means for you

For readers in Canada and the United States, this is a chance to try a kanban app without paying the usual US $0.99. Because no end date was given, the price could change at any time, so check the button before you download. If you already use a larger project tool with a team, Boardly’s sharing relies on iCloud and CloudKit, so everyone on a shared board will need an Apple device.
