Govee Christmas String Lights 2 are app-controlled Matter lights that Govee sells in four lengths from 66 ft to 328 ft, with an IP65 rating and more than 130 preset scenes. Govee Canada listed the product at $199.99, down from $269.99, and Amazon.ca briefly priced the 99ft version at $124.99 during Prime Big Deal Days.
Govee makes the lights and sells them on its own US and Canadian stores, as well as on Amazon. With holiday decorating about to start, they are the kind of smart home gadget Canadian shoppers look at as soon as the first snow arrives.
What do the Christmas String Lights 2 offer?
The lights come in four models: H70C4 at 66 ft, H70C5 at 99 ft, H70C7 at 164 ft and H70C9 at 328 ft. Govee’s page lists the following:
- Colour: RGBWIC with warm white LEDs, on a green wire or a white wire
- Scenes: more than 130 preset animated scenes and more than 10 music modes
- Control: Govee Home app, with voice control through Alexa, Google Home, Siri and Matter, plus IFTTT
- Power: 5 V, 15 W, corded
- Weather: IP65 rating, with an operating range of -20°C to 40°C
- Mapping: shape mapping that works out where each LED bead sits, using a video or a finger sketch
Notebookcheck, reporting on the launch, said the four sizes carry 200, 300, 500 and 1,000 lamp beads respectively. That figure matters if you plan to wrap a tall tree, because a longer string gives you more points to animate.

How does the shape mapping work?
Shape mapping is the feature Govee leads with. You point your phone camera at the lit strand, or sketch the shape with a finger, and the app learns the position of each bead. Effects can then follow the outline of a tree rather than just running down the wire.
The question for any smart string light is whether setup is annoying. Govee does not publish a setup time, so that part is unknown until readers report back.

Is it really weatherproof?
Govee lists the lights themselves at IP65, which covers dust and water jets. The power adapter is a different story: the page says the adapters on the shorter models are IP44, while the 328 ft model’s adapter is IP65. Govee also says the adapter must stay in a dry area or in an outdoor waterproof box.
For Canadian winters, that adapter note is the detail to plan around. Govee gives -20°C to 40°C as the operating range, so check it against the cold in your area before leaving the lights up all season.
How much do they cost in Canada and the US?
Govee’s US page shows one price, $74.99 on sale against $99.99 originally, in US dollars and without a price per length. Govee Canada’s holiday page lists Christmas String Lights 2 at $199.99, down from $269.99, but does not say which length or label the currency.
On Amazon.ca, iPhone in Canada reported the 99ft version at $124.99 in Canadian dollars during Prime Big Deal Days, which ran through October 7. That sale has ended, so the current price may differ.

Who it suits
Tree and mantel decorators. The shape mapping and 130+ scenes are aimed at people who want effects that follow a tree, not just a steady glow.
Smart home households. Matter, Alexa, Google Home and Siri support means the lights can sit in an existing setup without a separate hub.
Homeowners with a covered outlet. The IP65 string can go outside, but the adapter should sit in a dry spot or a waterproof box.
Who should skip them. If you want a plain warm white string with no app, a smart set is more than you need. Shoppers who dislike cords should note that these lights are corded.
What is still unknown?
Govee does not state a warranty term on the page we read, only a 30-day money-back guarantee and lifetime customer support. The Canadian page does not say which length each price covers, and it does not label the currency.
Before buying, open the Canadian product page, pick your length, and compare the price with Amazon.ca on the same day. Then decide where your outlet and adapter will sit.
