Amazon’s next-generation Echo Dot costs C$144.99 in Canada and goes on sale October 29, according to MobileSyrup, and iPhone in Canada reports the same price. It is built for Alexa+ and is the first Echo Dot with a built-in smart home hub and a built-in eero Wi-Fi extender.
Amazon announced the new Echo line in its newsroom. Three devices are coming to Canada: the Echo Dot, the Echo Studio with Home Camera and the Echo Time clock. iPhone in Canada reports that the Echo Show 16 and the Alexa Photo Frame, also part of the launch, are not coming to Canada for now. In the US, Amazon says the new Echo Dot ships for $99.99.
What is new in the Echo Dot?
Amazon lists these changes over the last generation:
- Sound: a full-range driver built into the housing, which Amazon says gives 50% more bass than the last generation
- Chip: Amazon’s custom AZ3 silicon, for faster on-device processing with Alexa+
- Microphones: a fourth microphone so Alexa hears you better in a busy room, and Voice ID to tell household members apart
- Sensors: Omnisense can detect room temperature and presence, so Alexa can adjust a thermostat or turn on lights
- Smart home hub: support for Zigbee, Matter and Thread without a separate hub
- Wi-Fi: a built-in eero extender that adds up to 1,000 sq ft to an existing eero network
- Design: a sphere wrapped in audio-transparent 3D knit fabric, in Graphite, Glacier White, Agave Green and Coral Pink, according to iPhone in Canada
MobileSyrup adds that the Echo Dot has a microphone-off button. Amazon also sells a Kids edition of the Echo Dot, in Octopus or Penguin designs, with a year of Kids+ included.
Why is it getting attention now?
It is a new release landing in Canada this week. MobileSyrup and iPhone in Canada both covered the Canadian launch on Oct 28, 2026, and the Amazon.ca listing is titled “Amazon Echo Dot (newest model)”. Amazon says the Echo Dot is one of its most-loved speakers, with more than one trillion minutes of music streamed on it in the last year alone. That is Amazon’s own figure.
Prices
In Canada, the Echo Dot is C$144.99 and the Echo Studio with Home Camera is C$329.99, according to both MobileSyrup and iPhone in Canada. In the US, Amazon lists the Echo Dot at $99.99, the Kids edition at $109.99, the Echo Studio at $219.99 and the Echo Studio with Home Camera at $249.99.
| Device | Canada | US |
|---|---|---|
| Echo Dot | C$144.99 | $99.99 |
| Echo Studio with Home Camera | C$329.99 | $249.99 |
The two Canadian outlets disagree on the Echo Time clock. MobileSyrup lists it at $346.98, while iPhone in Canada lists it from $289.99 and a bundle with the Amazon Adjustable Stand at $346.99, so check Amazon.ca for that one. iPhone in Canada also notes that the smarter conversational features of Alexa+ on these speakers stay tied to a Prime membership.
How does it compare with other Echo speakers?
Amazon.ca still lists the Echo Dot Max, described as a speaker with room-filling sound and nearly 2x bass for living rooms and medium-sized spaces. The new Echo Dot is pitched for apartments, bedrooms and home offices.
For bigger sound, the Echo Studio with Home Camera keeps the high-excursion woofer, three full-range drivers and Dolby Atmos of the Echo Studio, and adds a built-in camera. The Amazon.ca listing names a 13 MP camera, and Amazon says a button disables the camera and microphone.
Who it suits
First-time smart home buyers. The Echo Dot now acts as the hub, so compatible lights, locks and thermostats can connect without a separate bridge, according to Amazon.
eero owners with a dead spot. The built-in extender adds up to 1,000 sq ft, but only to an existing eero network, so it does not help anyone on other Wi-Fi gear.
Bedroom, desk and kitchen use. Amazon describes the Echo Dot as compact enough to sit on a desk or in a kitchen, office or garage.
Who should wait. If you want larger sound, look at the Echo Dot Max or the Echo Studio first. If you do not have Prime, the full Alexa+ features may not apply, per iPhone in Canada.
What is still unknown?
The Canadian price of the Kids edition is not in the reports we read, and neither outlet agrees on the Echo Time price. Amazon has also not said how long launch pricing will last.
Open the Amazon.ca listing for the Echo Dot on October 29, compare the live price with C$144.99, and read Amazon’s newsroom page for the full feature list before you order.
