ecobee’s Smart Thermostat Premium lists at C$329.99 on the company’s Canadian site, with a SmartSensor in the box, and at US$259.99 on its US site. With heating season under way, it is one of the smart home upgrades Canadian readers ask about most.
Global News put an ecobee thermostat in its Prime Big Deal Days guide on October 7, 2026, and described it as the Premium model. The thermostat itself is not new: ecobee, based in Toronto, introduced it on May 17, 2022, at C$329.99 and US$249.99.
Why is it back in the spotlight?
Global News filed it under “Best tech deals” in its Prime Big Deal Days guide, describing it as an upgrade for a home’s energy efficiency that uses smart sensors, occupancy detection and built-in air quality monitoring to manage heating and cooling. Winter heating bills are a worry for many Canadian households, and a thermostat is a small project. The 2022 release named ecobee.com, Amazon, Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, certified installers and local utilities as sales channels.

What does the Smart Thermostat Premium include?
According to ecobee’s product pages and launch release:
- A 4-inch colour touchscreen, 540 x 540 pixels, with radar based occupancy detection
- One SmartSensor in the box, with a stand and an adhesive wall mount
- A built-in air quality monitor that tracks VOCs, estimated CO2 and relative humidity, with alerts in the app
- Built-in Siri or Alexa, plus Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings and IFTTT support
- Smoke alarm detection and freeze detection when used as a home monitoring hub with the ecobee Smart Security subscription
- A 3-year limited warranty
ecobee says it works with over 95% of HVAC systems, including conventional furnaces, heat pumps and boilers. It is powered through terminals C and Rc, and an optional Power Extender Kit lets you skip running a fifth wire.

Prices
Canadian price first. ecobee’s Canadian page shows $329.99, with free shipping and delivery in 3 to 7 business days, and says you may be eligible for savings through a rebate lookup for your area. The 2022 release gave the same figure as C$329.99.
In the US, ecobee’s page shows $259.99. The company’s savings claim, based on an April 2021 internal analysis of North American customers, is up to 26% on heating and cooling costs. Actual savings vary with energy use and location.
One number does not line up. Global News listed an “ecobee Smart Thermostat” at $153.97 on Amazon, down from $179.99, and called it the Premium. That is far below ecobee’s own price, so it may be a short sale, a different model or a listing error. Check the exact model name on the Amazon.ca page, because we could not read it directly.
Is it worth it compared with the Enhanced model?
The Enhanced launched alongside it at US$189.99 and C$239.99. It shares the radar sensing, redesigned glass face and larger display, but ecobee’s release does not list the air quality monitor, speaker, or included SmartSensor for it. If you do not need those, the Enhanced is the cheaper way into the same platform.

Who it suits
Homeowners with a forced air furnace or heat pump. The compatibility checker on ecobee’s site tells you whether your system works before you buy.
Houses with cold bedrooms and warm living rooms. The included SmartSensor lets the thermostat respond to rooms people are actually using, and ecobee sells extra SmartSensors separately.
People who are away in winter. Freeze detection and smoke alarm detection need the ecobee Smart Security subscription, so add its cost to your budget.
Buyers who just want a programmable schedule. The Enhanced, or a basic model, may cover that for less.
What is still unknown
We could not confirm the current Amazon.ca price, and ecobee’s Canadian page does not label its currency, though the 2022 release does. Rebate amounts depend on your province and utility, and ecobee’s page does not list them.
Before buying, use the compatibility checker on ecobee’s site, look up your local rebate, and compare the Amazon.ca listing’s model name with the Premium page.
