XREAL AURA, the first wired XR glasses powered by Android XR, are open for order in Canada from today, October 28, with Canadian list prices of C$1,829 for the 12GB and 256GB version and C$2,149 for the 16GB and 512GB version. Google says orders also open today in the U.S. and Korea, and on November 2 in Japan.

The glasses use see-through lenses and connect by cable to a portable compute puck that runs Android XR and Gemini. Google built the launch around three uses: working, watching and playing on a private screen that only the wearer sees. Orders are for buyers 18 and older.

What is the XREAL AURA and how does it work?

The glasses weigh under 95 grams because the heavy processing and the battery sit in the puck, not on your face. The puck clips to a pocket or a lanyard and doubles as a trackpad, and you can pair a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse too.

Specs reported by Google, XREAL and the outlets covering the launch:

  • Field of view: 70 degrees
  • Display: Sony Micro-OLED, 1200p, 120Hz
  • Chips: Snapdragon Reality Elite in the puck, plus an XREAL X1S chip
  • Audio: Sound by Bose
  • Lenses: electrochromic dimming that fades the outside world out and back in
  • Connection: USB-C, with Wired Mirroring for laptops and handheld gaming devices

Road to VR adds a peak brightness of 1,050 nits and a 4,455 mAh battery in the puck. Those figures come from its report, not from Google’s launch post.

What can you do with the XREAL AURA?

For work, you can arrange several apps around you at any size. Plug a laptop into the glasses with a USB-C cable that supports video output and its screen appears as a window, with no software to install, according to Google. Gemini can see your laptop window too and can highlight what to focus on after you share your view.

For watching, YouTube, Google TV and streaming apps can sit wherever you like. New immersive titles arrive with the launch, including “Nevatars”, “Galapagos: the Last Eden” and the San Francisco Ballet’s “Nutcracker”. Android Central also points to an NBA app for Android XR, where multiview needs an NBA League Pass subscription.

For gaming, you can play mobile and tablet games from Google Play, or bring in a handheld or PC game with Wired Mirroring. Games made for XR include Fallout Factions and Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars. Google says the platform has over 150 apps made for XR.

How much does the XREAL AURA cost in Canada and the US?

XREAL’s launch announcement lists Canadian prices of C$1,829 and C$2,149. MobileSyrup, a Canadian outlet, listed the same figures on launch day and says Canadian buyers order at xreal.com/aura.

Version Canada list price US list price US launch price
12GB RAM + 256GB C$1,829 $1,279 $1,099
16GB RAM + 512GB C$2,149 $1,499 $1,299

The US launch pricing runs through the end of the year, according to Google and Android Central. None of the sources reviewed says whether a matching launch discount applies in Canada, so check the price at checkout. In the US, you can also order at BestBuy.com, with shipments beginning in mid-November. Android Central says other retailers and select Google Stores follow in 2027.

Who it suits

Remote workers and frequent flyers. A private multi-window display that fits in a bag suits hotel desks, couches and airline tray tables. Because only you can see the screen, Google points to confidential documents in public spaces.

Handheld and mobile gamers. Wired Mirroring brings a handheld or PC screen into the glasses, and the Google Play library covers thousands of mobile and tablet games.

Movie and sports fans. The dimming lenses and the 70 degree view give you a big private screen on a plane or a couch, and the immersive launch titles show what the format can do.

Who should wait. If you want to know whether the launch discount reaches Canada, or you do not want to pay C$1,829 or more for a first generation product with a cable and a puck, waiting for Canadian pricing details and reviews is reasonable. Prescription wearers can use lens inserts, according to Road to VR.

What is still unknown?

The sources do not give a Canadian shipping date, a Canadian retailer besides XREAL, or the battery runtime in hours. Google also notes that setup is required and that a compatible account is needed.
