Google has started rolling out Personal Intelligence for Gemini on Android Auto, the company announced on October 20, 2026. With it switched on, Gemini can look into your own Google apps to answer questions while you drive, instead of giving only general answers. Google says cars with Google built-in will get the feature in the coming months.

Gemini itself is now available globally on Android Auto and in cars with Google built-in, according to Google. It replaced Google Assistant on Android Auto earlier this year, and Android Headlines reported in April 2026 that the wider rollout had finally begun.

What Personal Intelligence adds

When you give permission, Gemini can connect information from Gmail, Google Calendar and other Workspace apps, Google Photos, Google Maps, YouTube and Search. Google gives a few examples of what you can say:

  • “What’s my flight gate? And is my flight on time?” to get both answers without opening the confirmation email
  • “Take me to my doctor’s appointment” without knowing the address
  • “Find the car wash from the photo I took last week and navigate there”
  • Restaurant picks along your route that match your usual tastes, such as vegetarian places

Privacy and who can use it

Google says nothing is connected until you turn Personal Intelligence on, and you can switch it off at any time in Gemini settings. In cars with Google built-in, personal answers only appear when you are in the car with your phone connected. If you never turn it on, navigation, music, calls and general questions still work.

There are limits. Google says the feature is for eligible personal Google accounts aged 18 and older. It is not available for Workspace business, enterprise or education accounts, and it is excluded in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Nigeria.

What it means for drivers

If you already use Personal Intelligence in the Gemini app on your phone, it carries over to the car automatically. If not, you can opt in from Gemini settings and choose which apps to connect.

The practical benefit is fewer glances at your phone. Asking one question for a flight gate or an address is safer than digging through email at a red light. The trade off is giving Gemini access to more of your personal data, so it is worth checking which apps you connect.
