Henry Cavill is building a 16-bit retro video game called “Mustache Protocol” on a Googlebook, and Google has started a video series about it. The first episode went live on November 4, 2026, and Google says every play of the finished game in November will trigger a donation to Movember.

The game does not have a release date yet. Google’s post describes the series as the making-of, with the playable game to follow once it is finished.

What is Mustache Protocol?

It is a retro arcade game with a joke at its centre. According to Google, the hook comes from Cavill’s internet-famous mustache lore, and the plot is about stopping rogue CGI artists from erasing every mustache on the planet.

Google says Cavill started from a back-of-the-napkin idea and wanted to see whether he could end up with a fully playable 16-bit game made on the laptop alone. Later episodes will cover how he designed the hero character, vibe coded meme-inspired superpowers and added to the soundtrack.

Which Googlebook features did he use?

Google names four tools in the first episode:

  • Antigravity: turns plain language prompts into working 16-bit game mechanics.
  • Rambler: a speech-to-text tool that tidies raw spoken thoughts while he brainstorms.
  • Magic Pointer: lets him select and combine visual elements on screen, which he used to mock up different looks and add accessories to the design.
  • Continue On: lets him move from his Android phone to the Googlebook and back without losing context.

Seeing the tools used in one real project is more useful than a feature list, though it is still a Google-produced video, so treat it as a showcase rather than a test.

How does the Movember donation work?

Google says it is teaming up with Movember to donate $11 for every play of the game during the month of November, up to $500,000. The money is meant to support awareness and funding for men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

That promise depends on the game being playable in November. Google has not said when it will launch, so the donation window is a reason to watch for the launch date rather than a guarantee that you will be able to play this month.

What does a Googlebook cost?

Google’s Cavill post does not list a price. The laptop itself is a separate matter, and other outlets covered its pricing when pre-orders opened in September 2026.

  • Starting price: US$899, according to The Standard and Yanko Design.
  • Makers: Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo build the first models.
  • Chips: Intel or Qualcomm, depending on the model, according to The Standard.
  • Battery: up to 14 hours, according to Google as relayed by The Standard.
  • Updates: Yanko Design reports a Google commitment to feature drops and software updates for up to 10 years.

The sources we read give only the starting figure. Prices are quoted in US dollars, and neither source lists prices for other countries, so check a local retailer before assuming a figure applies where you live.

Who it suits

Android phone owners who want a laptop that follows them. Continue On lets you pick up a task on the phone and finish it on the laptop. If you already live in Android, the series shows that workflow in practice.

Hobby game makers and retro fans. The video shows a spoken idea turning into a simple 16-bit game. It does not show how much polish or manual work sits behind the finished result, so expect a head start rather than a one-click game studio.

Anyone who wants to back Movember. You do not need a Googlebook to take part. The donation is tied to plays of the game, so signing up for launch updates is the step that matters.

Laptop shoppers comparing options. The video is marketing, not a review. Price, battery claims and the list of makers matter more than a celebrity project, so compare the specific model you are considering before buying.

What is still unknown?

Google has not given a launch date for the game, the number of episodes, or how play will be counted for the donation. It also has not said which Googlebook model Cavill uses. The sources we read do not list memory, storage or screen details for the individual laptops.
