DJI’s Osmo Mobile 8 Standard Combo is listed at C$145.00 on Amazon.ca and US$109.00 on Amazon.com at the time of writing. The phone gimbal adds unlimited 360° panning, a built-in extension rod and a stronger magnetic clamp, and DJI claims up to 10 hours of battery.

DJI introduced the Osmo Mobile 8 in late 2025, so this is a year-old model rather than a launch. The Amazon.ca listing for the Standard Combo shows 300+ bought in the past month and the Advanced Tracking Combo shows 500+, which is why it is on our radar as holiday shopping approaches.

What is new on the Osmo Mobile 8?

According to DJI’s product and specs pages and to Camera Jabber, which covered the global launch on 5 November 2025, the main points are:

  • Pan axis with unlimited 360° rotation, the first in the Osmo Mobile series, says Camera Jabber
  • A built-in extension rod with a maximum extension length of 215 mm, plus a built-in tripod
  • A magnetic phone clamp that takes phones weighing 170 to 300 g, 67 to 84 mm wide and 6.9 to 10 mm thick
  • Tracking through ActiveTrack 7.0.1, Apple DockKit on iOS, or the magnetic module
  • USB-C port that can charge the phone while it is mounted
  • Weight of approx. 370 g with tripod, clamp and module; 190 x 95 x 46 mm folded
  • Bluetooth 5.3 and the DJI Mimo app

What does the tracking module add?

The Multifunctional Module is a magnetic add-on that combines tracking for people and pets, a fill light and audio capture. DJI lists the light at 40 lux, and Camera Jabber reports 8 brightness levels and a receiver for DJI Mic 3, Mic 2 and Mic Mini transmitters.

Battery life depends on what is switched on. DJI rates the gimbal at approx. 10 hours level and stationary, approx. 5 hours with module tracking on and the light off, and approx. 4 hours with tracking on and the light at maximum. Charging takes approx. 2.5 hours on a 10W USB-C charger, DJI says.

The Amazon.com listing for the Standard Combo shows 1K+ bought in the past month, and the one for the gimbal with audio and lighting shows 4K+. We did not find a Canadian list price on DJI’s pages, so we cannot say how far these sit from DJI’s own price.

Who it suits

Phone video shooters who want a gimbal that folds small. At 190 x 95 x 46 mm folded and approx. 370 g, it fits a bag more easily than most rigs, and the built-in tripod removes the need for a separate stand.

Solo creators who film themselves. Tracking, the extension rod and 360° panning are aimed at vlogging and family clips. Note that DJI’s tracking, audio and light features come from the Multifunctional Module, and Amazon’s titles suggest only the Advanced Tracking Combo advertises audio and lighting.

iPhone owners. Camera Jabber lists Apple DockKit tracking on iOS, which lets compatible apps follow a subject without the module.

People with big phones or thick cases. DJI’s limits are 170 to 300 g and 6.9 to 10 mm thick, so a phone in a heavy case may not fit. DJI’s page has a compatibility list worth checking.

What is still unknown?

We could not confirm exactly what is in each Amazon box, nor DJI’s Canadian list price. Neither listing states an end date for its price, and we have not seen independent battery tests. DJI also sells an Osmo Mobile 8P, which we did not compare.

Before ordering, check DJI’s Osmo Mobile 8 page for the smartphone compatibility list, then compare the contents of the two Amazon listings.
