Square Enix has shared a new batch of more than 40 screenshots for Romancing SaGa 3: Destinies United, the full 3D remake of the 1995 role playing game. The images, published through the game’s Steam news feed and covered by RPG Site, focus on recruitable characters, abilities and the game’s side modes. The game launches on February 16, 2027.
Who you can recruit
Players pick one of eight protagonists: Julian, Ellen, Sarah, Thomas, Khalid, Mikhail, Monika and Katarina. Beyond them, the game has over 20 recruitable allies, each with their own stats and abilities. RPG Site named Count Leonid, Peony, Robin the Remarkable and Flurry among the ones shown so far, and Gematsu reported that more characters will be revealed later.
Abilities and battle
The screenshots also show the combat systems Square Enix has described. Battles are turn based and run on a timeline. During a fight, characters can learn new techniques on the spot, which the game calls Glimmers, and they can evade attacks. Formations shape how a party lines up, and the United Attack lets the party strike together.
Each character’s seven base attributes can be shaped by an item called a Nonastrum, which affects how well they work with techs and spells, according to RPG Site. Difficulty comes in three levels: Casual, Normal and Classic, which is the hard setting.
Story and extras
The story follows a disaster that returns every 300 years, with the Four Sinistrals trying to reopen the gates to the Abyss. A free scenario system lets players take on quests in any order, and their choices affect characters and events. Two minigames return: War Mode, where you command an army, and Business, where you bid on property.
Cutscenes are fully voiced in Japanese and English, and players can switch between the original soundtrack and new arrangements by Kenji Ito.
Price and platforms for Canada and the US
The game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch and PC. On Steam, the Canadian price is listed as CDN$ 79.99 and the US price as $59.99. RPG Site reports $59.99 on all consoles. Canadian console prices were not given in the sources we read.
Buying the Digital Deluxe version brings early access up to 72 hours before launch, along with extra costumes, formations and item packs. Pre-order buyers on Steam get two items that raise earnings from battle by 10% for characters at renown rank 2 or lower. Players with save data from Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven receive Leon’s Crown, which grants the Solar Art Lightball.
What it means for you
If you played the 1995 original, the new screenshots show how Square Enix has handled the cast in 3D. If you are new to the series, the free scenario system and the choice of eight starting heroes are the main things to understand before you commit. Pre-orders are open on Steam, and the Steam page lists English, French, German, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Korean text, with full voice audio in English and Japanese.
