Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 went live worldwide on October 23, 2026. According to Xbox Wire, the game’s headline multiplayer addition at launch is Kill Block, a single map that rebuilds itself between matches and even between rounds.

What Kill Block is

Kill Block takes place inside a training facility made of three modular sections: two outer areas called End Slabs and one central space called the Central Slab. The sections are swapped around after each match, so the layout, cover and sight lines change every time. The Call of Duty Blog says more than 500 configurations are possible at launch.

Most of the sections are new, but some recreate well known places from the series, including Crash from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Storage Town from Warzone’s Verdansk and Shoot House from Modern Warfare (2019). The facility can also simulate rain or snow, which affects visibility.

Gunfight returns, with a 10v10 option

Kill Block launches with an expanded Gunfight offering, including the classic 3v3 format and a new 10v10 mode. Every player in a round gets the same randomly assigned weapons and equipment, and nobody uses a custom loadout. Teams swap sides after the first round, the slabs reshuffle after round two, and a match ends when one side reaches six wins. If a round runs long, an Overtime Flag appears and both teams have to fight over it.

The studio says more core multiplayer modes are planned for Kill Block in later seasons.

The rest of the package

Beyond Kill Block, multiplayer ships with 12 grounded maps, with two returning favorites promised shortly after launch. Ground War brings larger battles with armored vehicles, and there are four smaller Gunfight maps plus the usual Hardcore variants of modes such as Team Deathmatch, Domination and Hardpoint. The campaign follows a North Korean invasion of South Korea, while DMZ is the extraction mode.

Platforms and prices

The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, Battle.net and Nintendo Switch 2. It is not available on Xbox One, and Xbox says it is not on Game Pass this year. Online multiplayer on Xbox requires a Game Pass Essential subscription, sold separately. On PC, TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are required.

The Xbox Store lists the standard edition at $69.99 and the Vault Edition at $99.99 at the time of writing. The Vault Edition adds operator packs, a weapon collection and a season of BlackCell. Canadian pricing was not given in the sources we checked, so check the store in your region before buying.

What it means for players

For players in Canada and the United States who mostly play multiplayer, Kill Block is the mode to try first, since the layout never settles into one memorized route. Anyone on an older console should note that this release skips PlayStation 4 and Xbox One entirely.
