Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches on Friday, October 23, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. With launch days away, Activision and Xbox Wire published a full rundown of the multiplayer content on October 19, listing every Operator, weapon and piece of equipment available on day one.
The game is developed by Infinity Ward and is the first Call of Duty to skip PS4 and Xbox One entirely. It is a standalone purchase at launch and is not part of Game Pass on day one, according to Activision.
Weapons and Create-a-Class
Modern Warfare 4 launches with 33 weapons, as listed in the official breakdown:
- 24 primary weapons: 8 assault rifles, 5 SMGs, 2 shotguns, 3 LMGs, 3 marksman rifles and 3 sniper rifles
- 8 secondary weapons: 4 pistols and 4 launchers
- 1 melee weapon, a knife
Create-a-Class unlocks at Player Level 4. Before that, players pick from premade loadouts. One change will save a lot of grinding: each attachment only has to be unlocked once, and it then works on every weapon that supports it.
Fully leveling a weapon unlocks its Apex Attachment, a special part that does not take up an attachment slot. The Han 86 rifle, for example, gets an airburst launcher. Players can then prestige the weapon for exclusive camos.
The perk system returns to a Pick 3 setup. Gamer Headlines counts 18 Perks, 9 Tacticals, 11 Lethals, 12 Field Upgrades and 17 Killstreaks in the launch list.
Operators and maps
There are 33 Operators at launch, shared between multiplayer and DMZ, and each loadout can now carry its own Operator. Five are available right away. Others unlock by finishing campaign missions, reaching DMZ player levels, completing multiplayer challenges or owning the Vault Edition.
Multiplayer launches with 12 core 6v6 maps, each with its own infil, plus dedicated Gunfight maps and large Big War maps. Kill Block, a new map, changes its layout during a match and has over 500 possible configurations. Infinity Ward has also removed hipfire bloom, the accuracy penalty for firing from the hip.
What it means for players
Players who pre-ordered digitally have had campaign early access since October 16 and get DMZ early access from October 20. According to GamingBible, the PC version unlocks at midnight local time on launch day and needs an SSD with 115GB of free space.
If you mainly play multiplayer, the shared attachment unlocks and per-loadout Operators mean less time spent repeating unlocks. Warzone integration does not arrive until Season 1, later this year. Since the game is not on Game Pass at launch, Xbox and PC players need to buy it to play on October 23.
