Summer Eternal, a studio formed by former Disco Elysium developers, has revealed Red Rooster, a physics-driven role-playing game that arrives on PC first. The reveal took place on October 14, 2026, and no release date has been given yet.
What Red Rooster is
You play Redrick Roost, a white-collar inmate in a minimum-security prison. Before his parole hearing, a government agency offers him a deal: investigate a string of serial arsons in exchange for a blanket pardon. The trail leads to his own brother, who is the city’s fire chief.
The story is set in Arta-Tantor, a fictional city that Inven Global describes as a blend of political alternate history and science fiction. It is the end of a record-long summer, with heatwaves, blackouts and wildfires hitting the city as it hosts the Continental Summer Games.
How it plays
The studio calls it an “incendiary, physics-driven RPG”. Objects in the world have mass and inertia, and players can move, manipulate and burn them. According to GameDaily, the developers describe the game as a mix of worldbuilding-heavy RPGs and physics-based immersive sims.
Instead of a fixed isometric view, the game uses 3D environments with a variable camera, and it is built in Unreal Engine. Dr. Astrid Albers, an opiate-dependent mathematician, is one of the companions. Redrick’s mind is a “chicken coop” where dark alter egos live, and players choose whether to listen to them.
For the RPG side, the studio cites Planescape: Torment, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines and Arcanum. For the physics, it points to Exanima, Larian’s Divinity games and Dark Messiah of Might and Magic.
Who is behind it
Inven Global reports that Argo Tuulik, a writer on the original Disco Elysium, is on the team, along with Lenval Brown, the narrator of Disco Elysium: The Final Cut.
Both Inven Global and GameDaily stress that Red Rooster is not a Disco Elysium sequel and that Summer Eternal is not an official ZA/UM successor. GameDaily adds that the studio calls itself a worker- and player-owned art collective with more than 20 contributors.
What it means for you
PC comes first, with PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions planned afterward. No price, publisher or release date has been announced, and nothing has been said about Canadian or US pricing or availability, so there is nothing to pre-order as a game yet.
Fans can already buy the Summer Eternal Anthology, a 500-page book with concept art, design notes and world-building. The Deluxe Edition adds a limited 10-inch vinyl with four soundtrack tracks.
