Breville’s Barista Express is near the top of Amazon.ca’s ranking for semi-automatic espresso machines as holiday gift shopping begins. On October 26, 2026, the BES870XL sat third on that list, and Breville’s Canadian store lists the machine at C$999.99.
What the Barista Express includes
Breville describes it as a machine that grinds, doses and extracts in one body. The main points from its Canadian product page:
- An integrated conical burr grinder with 16 grind settings
- A 54 mm stainless steel portafilter with an 18 g dose
- Low pressure pre-infusion, then 9 bar extraction from a 15 bar Italian pump
- Thermocoil heating with PID temperature control, with water at 200°F
- A manual steam wand for hand-textured microfoam milk
- A dosing funnel, integrated tamper, stainless steel milk jug and water filter holder in the box
Breville says the machine can go from bean to espresso in less than a minute. It measures 15.9 x 13.1 x 12.4 in, so it needs real counter space.
Prices in Canada and the US
In Canada, Breville asks C$999.99 for the Barista Express. When we checked on October 26, 2026, the Amazon.ca listing for the BES870XL showed C$799.99. Retail prices change without notice, so confirm the figure before you buy.
In the US, Tom’s Guide reported deals running from $499.95 at Amazon to $699.95 at Breville. NBC News Select listed the machine at $499.95, down from $699.95, in an October Prime Day kitchen roundup whose deals ran only through October 7.
Barista Express or Bambino Plus
Breville’s cheaper option in Canada is the Bambino Plus at C$649.99. Its ThermoJet heater is ready in 3 seconds, it textures milk automatically at three temperatures and three foam levels, and it uses the same 54 mm portafilter and 9 bar extraction. It measures 30.3 x 18.8 x 36.2 cm. The catch is that there is no grinder, so you need a separate one.
Tom’s Guide calls the Barista Express “one of the best espresso machines around” and points buyers with a tighter budget or less counter space to the Bambino Plus. Its listed drawbacks for the Barista Express are no low-water warning and a finish that shows fingerprints. In the US, Tom’s Guide says the Bambino Plus lists at $499 and often sells for $399.
Is it worth it?
The Barista Express suits people who want the grinder and the machine in one purchase and don’t mind learning to dose, tamp and steam milk by hand. The Bambino Plus suits small kitchens, anyone who wants automatic milk, and buyers who already own a grinder or plan to add one. If you are comparing prices, look at the Breville Canada figure first, then check whether the retailer listing is sold and shipped by a seller you trust.
