Makita has added three bare tools to its 18V LXT cordless line: the XFD17 driver drill, the XPH17 hammer driver drill and the XWT20 compact 1/2 inch square drive impact wrench. SlashGear reports pre-order prices of $129, $139 and $169 at Acme Tools, while Makita’s own pages list no price.

Makita U.S.A. published both press releases on November 3, 2026, from La Mirada, California. The tools run on Makita’s 18V LXT batteries, and they are sold tool only, so batteries and a charger are separate.

What are the Makita XFD17 and XPH17 drills?

The XFD17 is a 1/2 inch driver drill with two modes, drilling and driving. The XPH17 adds a hammer drilling mode for masonry. Both use a Makita built brushless motor and share the same body.

  • Chuck: 1/2 inch, keyless
  • Speed (2 speed gearbox): 0 to 500 RPM and 0 to 1,900 RPM
  • Maximum torque: 580 in-lbs (65 N·m)
  • Impact rate, XPH17 only: 0 to 7,500 and 0 to 28,500 BPM
  • Clutch: 20 positions
  • Length: 6-9/16 inches
  • Weight with battery: 3.7 lbs
  • Capacity: 1/2 inch in steel and 1-1/2 inches in wood, plus 1/2 inch in masonry for the XPH17

Makita also lists LED work lights, a rubberized grip and Star Protection Computer Controls, which guard the battery and tool against overloading, over discharging and overheating. Makita lists the same torque and speed for both drills, so the difference on paper is the hammer mode.

What is the Makita XWT20 impact wrench?

The XWT20 is a compact, center handle 1/2 inch square drive impact wrench aimed at automotive, installation and fabrication work, according to Makita. Its brushless motor runs from 0 to 2,300 RPM and 0 to 3,200 impacts per minute.

  • Torque: up to 300 ft-lbs and up to 170 ft-lbs, with the two labels reported differently (see below)
  • Length: 5-1/8 inches
  • Weight with battery: 3.2 lbs using a 3.0 Ah battery
  • Light: LED job light with preglow and afterglow
  • Protection: Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) against dust and water, plus Star Protection electronics
  • Warranty: 3-year limited

A note on the torque figures. Makita’s product page and SlashGear both describe 300 ft-lbs as the nut-busting figure and 170 ft-lbs as fastening torque, while the product page table shows 180 ft-lbs for fastening and the press release text words the pair the other way round. Check Makita’s product page before you compare it with another wrench.

How much do they cost and when can you buy them?

Makita’s press releases and product pages give no prices and no ship date. The only prices come from SlashGear, which cites Acme Tools listings, all in dollars with no other currency named, and all for pre-order when the article was written.

Tool Listed price
XFD17 driver drill, bare tool $129
XPH17 hammer driver drill, bare tool $139
XWT20Z impact wrench, bare tool $169

Makita’s product page sends shoppers to a dealer finder instead of a store. No prices or release dates have been published for other countries, so readers outside the market covered by Makita U.S.A. should ask a local Makita dealer.

Who it suits

Existing LXT owners. The tools take the 18V LXT batteries and chargers you already have, so a bare tool adds a drill or a wrench without a second battery system.

Carpenters and general trades. The XFD17 and XPH17 weigh 3.7 lbs with a battery and measure 6-9/16 inches long, which keeps them easy to carry on a job. Their wood capacity is 1-1/2 inches.

Installers and masonry light users. The XPH17 hammer mode is rated for 1/2 inch masonry, which is the figure Makita gives for masonry.

Mechanics and fabricators. The XWT20 is built for automotive, installation and fabrication work, and its 3.2 lbs weight and 5-1/8 inch length make it easy to carry into an engine bay.

Who should wait. If you need a confirmed price in your own country, a ship date or a kit with batteries, wait. Makita has published neither.

What is still unknown?

Makita has not said whether kits with a battery and charger are coming, what the tools will cost outside the dollar listings, or when they ship. Wait for the dealer listings to move from pre-order to in stock before you plan a purchase.

Read the two press releases and the XWT20Z product page on makitatools.com for the full spec tables, and check your local Makita dealer for pricing in your market.
