Dewalt has launched two compact mechanics tool sets with 50 pieces each: a 1/4 inch drive kit (DWMT45422) and a 3/8 inch drive kit (DWMT45423). ToolGuyd reported the launch on Nov 6, 2026 and lists the smaller set at $34.
Both kits pair a low profile ratchet with sockets, extensions and a bit selection in a yellow molded case. ToolGuyd says the case looks a lot like Dewalt’s older accessory cases, and that the mix of tools differs from the maker’s existing ToughCase based sets.
What comes in the 1/4 inch set?
The DWMT45422 is the smaller of the two. According to Dewalt’s product page, it breaks down like this:
- 1 low profile ratchet with 72 teeth and a 5 degree arc swing
- 23 sockets, with sizes listed only as assorted
- 1 spinner handle and 1 bit adapter
- 22 bits
- 1 three inch extension and 1 six inch extension
ToolGuyd describes the sockets as 6 point and calls the assortment of tools convenient for the money. Dewalt backs the set with a full lifetime warranty.
What comes in the 3/8 inch set?
The DWMT45423 also totals 50 pieces, but the ratchet is bigger, as you would expect from a 3/8 inch drive. ToolGuyd says it still looks fairly compact and tidy.
- 1 low profile 3/8 inch ratchet with 72 teeth and a 5 degree arc swing
- 22 sockets plus 1 spark plug socket
- 1 spinner handle and 1 bit adapter
- 22 bits
- 1 three inch extension and 1 six inch extension
Dewalt’s page again lists socket sizes only as assorted and carries the same full lifetime warranty.
How much do the sets cost?
ToolGuyd gives the following prices, written in dollars with no country named in the article:
| Set | Model | Price listed |
|---|---|---|
| 1/4 inch drive, 50 pieces | DWMT45422 | $34 |
| 3/8 inch drive, 50 pieces | DWMT45423 | $57 and up |
ToolGuyd links to Home Depot, Amazon and Acme Tools for the 1/4 inch set, and to Home Depot and Amazon for the 3/8 inch set. Dewalt’s own product pages do not list a price, so these are retailer figures at the time of writing and can change at any time. Prices in other countries and currencies have not been given.
Who do these sets suit?
Home garage owners. A small kit that covers sockets, hex bits and extensions in one case suits basic car, bike and appliance jobs where a full toolbox would be too much. The 1/4 inch set at $34 is the cheaper way in, according to ToolGuyd.
Mechanics and tradespeople who need a carry set. The 3/8 inch kit has a larger ratchet and a spark plug socket, which fits under hood work better. Compact cases are easy to keep in a service bag or a vehicle.
Buyers who already own a Dewalt kit. ToolGuyd notes that Dewalt still sells its ToughCase based mechanics sets, such as a 25 piece set on Amazon. The new sets are not replacements for those. They are a different mix with more bits and a spinner handle.
Gift shoppers. With Black Friday deal guides running, ToolGuyd flagged the 1/4 inch set as especially good value, though that is the outlet’s opinion rather than a tested result.
What is still unknown?
Dewalt has not listed the individual socket sizes on its product pages, so check the exact SAE and metric range before you buy if you need a particular size. The sources do not say whether the ratchets have quick release, and ToolGuyd readers in the comments said older versions of these sets used a sealed ratchet without it. Pricing outside the figures above, and availability in other markets, have not been stated.
Some readers in the comments also questioned the spinner handle in a 3/8 inch kit and compared the sets with Craftsman’s mini kits. Those are reader opinions, not Dewalt claims.
