The Apple Watch Series 12 starts at $399 for the 42mm model on Apple’s US site, and Amazon has already trimmed the GPS 42mm version to $389, according to Tom’s Guide. Gizmodo called an earlier Amazon discount the first downward shift in Series 12 pricing, which is a big reason shoppers are searching for it ahead of Black Friday.
The watch is Apple’s newest Apple Watch, built around the S11 chip and a redesigned heart sensor. Below is what Apple says it does, what it costs, and who should buy now or wait.
What does the Apple Watch Series 12 offer?
Apple’s product page lists these headline specs:
- Sizes: 46mm or 42mm, in aluminum, titanium or ceramic, with eight finishes
- Display: wide-angle Always-On Retina, up to 2000 nits
- Chip: S11
- Heart sensing: a background heart rate reading every five seconds, and HRV as often as every five minutes, which Apple says is 60x and 24x more frequent than Series 11
- Readiness: a daily score built from recent activity, vitals and sleep
- Glass: Ceramic Shield 2 on the aluminum cases, which Apple says is 60% tougher than the Ion-X glass on Series 11
- Water and dust: usable in a pool or the ocean down to 6 meters, rated IP6X for dust
- Battery: up to 24 hours of normal use, up to 38 hours in Low Power Mode, and 15 minutes of fast charging for up to 12 more hours
- Connectivity: 5G is available in select markets and needs a carrier data plan
Why is it trending now?
Two things came together. First, Gizmodo reported on October 6, 2026 that the 46mm GPS + Cellular model in Black Aluminum fell to $500 at Amazon from its $549 list price during Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days. That was a $49 drop on a watch that had only just launched.
Second, Black Friday shopping has started early. Tom’s Guide lists the 42mm GPS model at $389 on Amazon, down from $399, and calls it a minor discount. Its author writes: “I would recommend waiting till it hits $349 or less.”
How does it compare with the Apple Watch SE 3?
Apple’s own comparison table puts the two side by side. The SE 3 comes in 44mm or 40mm aluminum, with a display up to 1000 nits, the S10 chip and up to 18 hours of normal use. The table shows no Readiness app, ECG app or Blood Oxygen app for the SE 3.
Tom’s Guide lists the SE 3 GPS 40mm at $239 on Amazon, down from $249. What the Series 12 adds over it, per Apple’s table, is the brighter screen, the newer chip and the longer battery.

Cellular models need a carrier plan on top of the watch price, as Gizmodo notes. Prices were accurate at the time of writing and can change at any time.
Who it suits
Apple fans upgrading from an older watch. Gizmodo says the current Amazon price is a solid entry point for people already in the Apple ecosystem. The Series 12 is the model Apple pitches for health and fitness tracking, and the Readiness score and denser heart readings are the clearest changes over Series 11.
Shoppers who can wait. Tom’s Guide calls the current $10 cut minor and suggests holding out for $349 or less. No source promises a bigger drop, so treat that as a judgment call.
Budget buyers. The SE 3 covers the basics at a lower price, but Apple’s table shows it lacks the Series 12’s ECG app, Blood Oxygen app and Readiness app.
Anyone who dislikes nightly charging. Gizmodo notes that up to 24 hours of normal use means a charge most nights, which is the trade-off against rivals with multi-day battery life.
What is still unknown?
Apple says some features, such as Health Age, arrive late in 2026, and the sources we read do not give discounts outside the US. We also cannot say whether the current Amazon prices will hold through Black Friday.
