The Avatar State Patch for Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is live now on Xbox Series X|S, with new looks for Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra, Ranked Mode 2.0 and balance changes for every fighter. Xbox Wire called it the biggest update the game has seen when it published the news on October 30, 2026.
The game comes from developer Gameplay Group International, with Paramount Games handling digital publishing and PM Studios the physical edition. It launched earlier this year with 12 characters from “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra”.
What is in the Avatar State Patch?
The patch changes the look of the game, two fighters, the balance of the whole roster and the ways to learn and play. According to Xbox Wire, it includes:
- Redesigned menus, character select, stage select and in-match interface
- New art, attacks and super moves for Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra
- Balance changes for every character, from Aang to Zaheer
- Ranked Mode 2.0
- Story Mode+, Story difficulty settings, new tutorials and Combo Trials
- Story stages available in Versus
The full patch notes are on the Paramount Games site, according to the post.

How do Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra change?
Both fighters were redrawn in opposite directions. The team describes Avatar Aang as pure, overwhelming power with precise elemental attacks, and he is the only fighter lit from below. His new Level 4 super, Roku’s Inferno, has him transform into Roku and engulf the battlefield in flame.
Nightmare Korra draws on the dark reflection from the “Korra Alone” episode. She now wears chains on both wrists, moves slowly and then explodes into chain swings or teleports, and her Final Technique is called Eternal Nightmare. She starts each match with less health, because an earlier idea of draining her health constantly did not make for interesting play, the developers said.
What balance changes matter most?
Xbox Wire highlighted two. Azula’s Ambition’s Spark in Focused Stance now tracks closer to the opponent, has a much larger detonation hitbox and can be flow cancelled. Sokka’s sword specials can cancel directly into a boomerang toss under certain conditions, and after at least 10 stacks of successful sword hits he keeps that ability for the rest of the match.
Can you vote for the next fighter?
Yes, if you pre-ordered the game or hold the Deluxe Edition. The vote decides the fifth character in the Year 1 Pass, which already includes Iroh, Ty Lee, Lin Beifong and Bolin. The candidates are Tenzin, Kuvira, Amon, King Bumi and Asami Sato. Voting runs for one month and is found on the main menu.

Prices
Xbox Wire lists the Standard Edition at $29.99 and the Deluxe Edition, which includes the Year 1 Pass, at $49.99, in dollars on its US site. Xbox Wire does not give Canadian prices. On Steam in Canada, the PC version is listed at CDN$ 38.99. Check the Xbox store in your region for the Canadian console price.
Who it suits
Fighting game newcomers get the most from this update, since the new tutorials, Combo Trials and Story difficulty settings are aimed at learning the game.
Ranked players should look at Ranked Mode 2.0 and the full roster rebalance, which may change who is strong in each matchup.
Fans of the shows can enjoy the Story Mode and the reworked Aang and Korra designs, built from scenes in both series.
Players on other platforms should check their store. The game’s publisher lists Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Steam, but Xbox Wire only confirms the patch for Xbox Series X|S.
What is still unknown
Xbox Wire does not say when the patch reaches other platforms, and it does not list a release date for the Year 1 Pass characters. Details on the new Nightmare Korra moveset were shown in the post but not spelled out in text.
Next step: read the full patch notes on the Paramount Games site, then use the main menu vote if you own the game through a pre-order or the Deluxe Edition.
