The Mailroom, a cozy horror job simulator from developer Crowfriend, is due to launch on Steam on October 26, 2026. The game puts you in a dead-end job sorting mail in the basement of a small regional office of Hell, located in Modesto, California.

What you actually do

The core loop is sorting. You read clues to decide where each piece of mail belongs and send it on through pneumatic tubes. According to the Steam listing, you also dissect raw ingredients into materials for the upper floors and use tools, magic and blood to keep the equipment running.

Underneath the paperwork sits a mystery. As the job turns stranger, you investigate the building and look for a way out, ideally with your soul intact.

  • Mail sorting by clues, with pneumatic tubes
  • Raw ingredient processing for the floors above
  • Equipment upkeep using tools, magic and blood
  • A crunchy 3D look with retro PS1-style pixelated graphics
  • Single-player, with Steam Achievements and Steam Cloud

Tone and platforms

GamingOnLinux reports that the developer calls it not super scary, with some jumpscares and humor mixed in. The outlet and the Steam page both liken it to a scarier version of Papers, Please. GamingOnLinux also says the game runs natively on Linux and is Steam Deck Verified. Listings on Deku Deals and The Game Post show Crowfriend as developer and Vendetta as publisher.

Try the demo first

A free demo is already on Steam. Steam says it covers Day 1 and lasts about 20 minutes. At the time of writing, the demo page showed user reviews rated Very Positive, with 98% of 89 reviews positive.

What it means for Canadian and US players

The sources we checked do not list a price for the full game, so we cannot say what it will cost in Canadian or US dollars. Check the Steam store page on release day for regional pricing. Steam lists full audio in English, with interface text and subtitles in 11 other languages. Deku Deals lists Steam as the only platform for now, and The Game Post lists PC on Windows.

If you are on the fence, the demo is the low-risk way to find out whether a stint in Hell’s mailroom suits you before the full release arrives.
