Puckoff: Reloaded, a story-driven hockey game where fighting counts as part of the sport, is out on Xbox Series X|S with a listed price of $14.99. The developer, Kuura Playhouse Oy, says it is the first time the game has reached a console, after an earlier version that was only available on PC.

The studio is a team of five in Finland. Producer Marko Haaja explained the idea in a developer post on Xbox Wire, written around frozen ponds and outdoor rinks.

What is Puckoff: Reloaded?

It is a hockey game with no rulebook to speak of. You start as a total newcomer in an underground league, work on your skills and attitude, and build a team of has-beens and legends. Along the way you learn different playstyles to beat a long list of colourful characters from around the world.

According to Haaja, scoring still helps, but it is not the only route to a win. You can set up a teammate, make a clean pass, or knock an opponent out. In his words, nobody in this world seems particularly bothered by that last option.

What is the story about?

Between matches, the game uses a presentation inspired by visual novels to carry a larger plot. The matches are not meant to be stand-alone challenges. They are steps in a search for a legend called Dominator.

Dominator has played underground hockey for decades, and the game says he has never lost. Finding him and eventually playing alongside him is the goal that drives the player character.

The biggest fights happen in a place called the Cage, which the developer describes as the home of some of the game’s most dangerous opponents. These boss matches ask for more than outscoring a team. Each opponent has an identity, abilities and a way of playing, and you have to get through them to get closer to Dominator.

Many of the rinks are outdoor frozen ponds, modelled on the places where the team grew up playing.

How much does Puckoff: Reloaded cost?

The Xbox Wire page lists the game at $14.99 and does not name a currency. No Canadian price is shown in the material we read, so check the Xbox Store in Canada before you buy. The PlayStation Store lists the PS5 version at $14.99 as well, in its US storefront.

Release dates are a little muddled. Xbox Wire’s post is dated October 30, 2026 and says the game launches on Xbox Series X|S “today”. The PlayStation Store shows 10/1/2026 for the PS5 release, and TheXboxHub also published its coverage on October 1, 2026. We cannot say from these sources why the dates differ, so treat the store page you use as the final word.

What do early reviews say?

Gaming.net reviewed the Xbox Series X|S and PC versions and scored the game 7/10. The reviewer called it budget friendly and said it is not the best hockey game ever made but is worth considering. That review mentions offline training modes and player versus player features, including a tournament pool.

Who it suits

Fans of arcade sports games. If you prefer a loose, exaggerated take on hockey to a strict simulation, this is aimed at you. The developer says outright that he wanted a game that lets players do the things hockey games usually forbid.

Story players. Anyone who has wished a sports game came with characters, rivalries and a mystery should look at the visual novel style scenes and the hunt for Dominator. It is a small team’s attempt at a narrative, so expect scale to match.

Couch groups. The PS5 listing shows support for 1 to 4 players offline, and Haaja describes an evening of playing hockey with friends and laughing when somebody gets knocked out. Check the Xbox Store page to confirm the same player count on Xbox.

Readers who dislike violence. The game is built around brutal fights, and the PS5 version carries an ESRB Teen rating. If that is not your taste, a standard hockey game will suit you better.
