Phantom Blade Zero, the action game from developer S-GAME, is set to launch worldwide on October 29. Reviews have started to appear on Steam’s news pages ahead of release, and the game will be available on PlayStation 5 and on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
The date is a delay from the original plan. According to KeenGamer, the game was first scheduled for September 9 before the new date was confirmed.
Editions and price
Two editions are on offer. RPG Site reports a Standard Edition at $59.99 and a Deluxe Edition at $69.99, while KeenGamer lists the second one as the Digital Deluxe Edition at the same price. Neither outlet names the currency, and no Canadian price has been published in the sources we checked, so Canadian readers should look at the PlayStation Store, Steam or the Epic Games Store listing for the price in their own region before ordering.
Pre-orders opened on August 11. RPG Site says pre-ordering unlocks the Treasure Basin accessory and the Legacy outfit early, and that both items can also be earned through normal progression. That means the bonus saves time rather than locking content behind a purchase.
Platforms
The confirmed platforms are PS5 and PC. No Xbox version has been announced as of now. A physical edition has also been mentioned by Spanish outlet LevelUp in its coverage of the pre-order launch, though the details of that edition were not part of the pages we could verify, so check with your retailer if you prefer a disc.
What the early reviews say
The write ups that Steam’s news feed has gathered so far are strongly positive. One headline calls the game a new gold standard for action RPGs, another describes it as a contender for game of the year with combat that looks as good as it feels. These are opinions from individual outlets, and the game is not yet in the hands of most players, so it is worth waiting for a wider set of impressions and for the first patch notes before deciding.
What it means for you
If you play on PS5 or PC, you have a clear date to plan around: October 29. The $59.99 Standard Edition is the base game, while the $69.99 Deluxe Edition adds extras that the sources do not list in detail. If the early unlocks are the only thing that tempts you toward the higher tier, remember that they can also be earned in the game.
Anyone waiting for an Xbox release will have to wait longer, since nothing has been announced. Prices can change by store and by region, so confirm the final amount in your local storefront at checkout.
