Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5 went live on October 22 for PC, Mac, PS4 and Xbox, adding a prequel quest, a dual wielding playstyle and cross-platform mod support. The Nintendo Switch 2 version follows, with no date given, according to Video Games Chronicle.
The update arrived alongside the Netflix debut of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. Paweł Sasko, the Cyberpunk 2077 lead, told GamesRadar he wanted an update “much more meaningful than the one we created for Edgerunners in 2022.”
What does Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5 add?
The headline items come from CD Projekt’s announcement as reported by Video Games Chronicle:
- Clampdown: a side quest set before the events of Edgerunners 2, unlocked by finishing The Heist and two gigs for Wakako
- Welcome to Paradise: another side quest, which needs The Heist completed and Street Cred at level 15
- Dual wielding: a new Double Trouble perk for pistols and revolvers
- Mods: cross-platform support through mod.io on PC, Mac, PS5, PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S
- Style: five new outfit sets, cyberware customization at five Glamdocs and a five piece King gear set
- Collectibles: 12 new Minor Arcana tarot cards
- Quality of life: grouped saves, stash item filters, a modded save icon and a console FOV slider
CD Projekt’s own description of the dual wielding mode is to “go gung-ho” and double your firepower with dedicated perks.
There is also a technology list: DLSS 4.5 with up to 6X Multi Frame Generation, Samsung Odyssey 3D support, MetalFX on Mac, an FSR Anti-Lag 2 toggle and HDR improvements. FSR 3 upscaling was removed.
What did the game’s lead say about it?
Sasko said the goal was to acknowledge the shared universe of the show and the game. On the studio’s own blog he explained that the prequel quest follows Team King’s last job and introduces King, Meshuga, Miguel and Emily, and that it takes players to a part of Night City they have not explored before.
The Edgerunners 2 voice actors also appear in the game, so the characters match the show. Sasko wrote that “believability and immersion were the most important” goals for him. For comparison, GamesRadar notes that the 2022 Edgerunners update, version 1.6, added transmogs and cross-progression.
How did players respond?
Cyberpunk 2077 reached its highest Steam player count in three years after Edgerunners 2 and update 2.5, according to GamesRadar.
Video Games Chronicle adds that CD Projekt says the base game has sold 40 million copies worldwide and Phantom Liberty has sold 15 million. It also points out that the update comes about two years after the studio said the game had received its last big update.
How much does update 2.5 cost in Canada and the US?

Console and Mac players who want mods. Mod support through mod.io reaches PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S and Mac, not only PC. Modded saves now get an icon, which helps you tell them apart.
Players who skipped a replay. Dual wielding and Glamdoc cyberware customization give a new build to try, and the grouped saves and stash filters cut menu time.
Who should wait. Nintendo Switch 2 owners have no date yet, and anyone on older hardware should watch for performance notes before reinstalling.
What is still unknown?
CD Projekt has not given a Switch 2 date in the coverage we read, and no source lists a price for the update. The sources also do not say how heavily mods will be moderated on consoles.
