Wilderdark, a first-person stealth survival horror game about an island where dinosaurs are being corrupted by a parasite, is set to launch on PC through Steam on November 3, 2026, and a free demo has been on the store since May 7, 2026. It is developed by Team Junkfish and published by Junkfish Limited, and it is single player only.
Players take the role of a field operative sent by a mysterious organisation that is chasing immortality. The Steam page describes the job as documenting the island’s ecosystem, collecting samples and working out what happened to earlier expeditions that never came back. One of them was led by the player’s parents, according to the developer’s announcement.
What is Wilderdark about?
The game opens with a crash landing on an island infected by an ectoparasitic organism. The parasite is corrupting both dinosaurs and plant life, so the wildlife is no longer simply wild.
Locations named in the press release include dense jungles, abandoned research camps and parasite-infested ruins. The story is told through the environment, including the fate of the missing expeditions.
How does it play?
Stealth sits at the centre. According to the press release, apex predators hunt by sight and sound, and even small noises can draw them in, so the aim is to avoid fights rather than win them. The Steam demo page also warns that carnivorous dinosaurs such as the T-rex can be deadly.
The core loop, as the sources describe it:
- Start with minimal resources and tools after the crash, and manage them with care
- Photograph discoveries to document the ecosystem
- Collect samples from the island
- Craft tools from materials found along the way
- Stay hidden from predators that react to movement and noise
The Steam page also lists Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing. It also notes that a third-party EULA must be accepted.
What are the PC requirements?
Steam lists the following for the full game:
| Minimum | Recommended | |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 64-bit or later | Windows 10 64-bit or later |
| CPU | Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 | Intel Core i7-8700 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 |
| Memory | 16 GB RAM | 32 GB RAM |
| Graphics | Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD equivalent | Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 or AMD equivalent |
| DirectX | Version 12 | Version 12 |
The memory figures are on the high side for the minimum tier, so check your RAM before you commit. Steam lists the interface in English and eight other languages, but full audio is English only.
Prices
No price appears in the sources we could read. Neither the Steam store page nor the developer’s press release states one, and we found no launch discount. Steam shows prices in your local currency, so check the Wilderdark page on Steam for the figure and any launch offer in your region. We are not quoting any price from third-party shops.
Can you try it for free?
Yes. The Wilderdark Demo is listed on Steam as a free demo and carries the date May 7, 2026. Its user reviews sit at Mixed, with 60% of 23 reviews positive, so it is a small sample. According to the press release, the demo was updated after community feedback with a map, a waypoint system for navigation, quality-of-life tweaks and bug fixes. We could not confirm whether the demo stays up after launch.
Who it suits
Fans of stealth horror. If you like hiding, listening and planning a route past something that can kill you, the setup fits. The studio calls the game its return to stealth survival horror, after Monstrum, its first game, which launched on PC in January 2015.
Players who want a dinosaur game that is not a power fantasy. The sources stress minimal resources and predators that win a straight fight, which is the opposite of most dinosaur games.
Anyone with a mid-range gaming PC. The RTX 2070 minimum is a card from a few years back, but 16 GB of RAM and a DirectX 12 card rule out older machines.
Who should wait. Players who want the full picture should try the demo first. The Mixed demo reviews, the lack of a listed price in our sources and the English-only voice track are all reasons to check before buying.
What is still unknown
The sources do not give a price, the length of the campaign or whether console versions are planned. The Steam page text we read still showed a coming soon state, while Time Extension lists the game as released on November 3, 2026, so confirm the live status on Steam. The release date trailer is on the official Team Junkfish YouTube channel, and the Steam store page is the place to check the price and the demo.
