Netflix is developing a live-action series based on PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Donald Glover is set to write, direct, executive produce and star in it, KRAFTON announced on October 29, 2026. No release date has been given.

The project comes from KRAFTON, the company behind the battle royale game, working through its entertainment subsidiary LV3H. It is described as “in development”, so it is a project in progress and not a finished show. The announcement did not say when the series will reach Netflix subscribers in Canada or the United States.

Who is making the PUBG series?

Donald Glover leads the project in front of and behind the camera. Gematsu reports that he directs, writes, executive produces and stars, and What’s on Netflix lists the same four roles. Game Developer, in its own report, describes him as writing, producing and starring.

The rest of the creative team, as the outlets list it:

  • Stephen Glover, Donald’s brother, joins as a writer and executive producer
  • Michael Schaefer, executive producer for NEON TV
  • Fam Udeorji, executive producer for Gilga
  • Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee, executive producers for LV3H, KRAFTON’s entertainment-focused subsidiary

What’s on Netflix adds that Stephen Glover co-created and wrote Atlanta, the series that made the brothers’ partnership well known.

What is the show about?

Nothing about the story has been shared. The sources do not give a plot, a setting or any characters, and no cast has been named besides Donald Glover himself. Whether the show will follow the match format of the game, with players dropped onto an island to be the last one standing, or tell something different is not stated anywhere.

The same goes for the size of the series. The number of seasons and episodes has not been announced, and there is no production start date.

What is PUBG: Battlegrounds?

PUBG: Battlegrounds is a battle royale shooter that launched in 2017 under the name PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. According to Game Developer, it sold over 75 million copies before it went free to play. KRAFTON says the franchise holds seven Guinness World Records, as What’s on Netflix reports.

KRAFTON has tried a screen version before. What’s on Netflix notes that the company announced an animated PUBG series with producer Adi Shankar in July 2021, and that nothing has been heard about it since. Today’s announcement does not mention that earlier project.

When will it come out?

No date or release window has been announced. What’s on Netflix estimates that the show will not arrive before 2028 at the earliest, because scripts are still being written. That is the outlet’s own estimate and not a statement from Netflix or KRAFTON, so treat it as a rough guide.

Prices

There is no price to list. A Netflix series is covered by the subscription, and the sources do not give Canadian or US plan details for this project. The game itself is free to play, according to Game Developer, so nothing needs to be bought to try it ahead of the series.

Who it suits

PUBG players. If you already drop into matches, this is the first live-action story built on the game, led by a writer who already controls the whole production. Expect a long wait before there is anything to watch.

Fans of Donald Glover’s work. Glover has two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes, according to Game Developer, and is known for Atlanta and Community. If you follow his projects, this is another one to track.

Readers who like game adaptations. What’s on Netflix lists a long line of Netflix game projects, from Arcane to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. A PUBG show would join that list, but with no plot or cast known there is nothing yet to judge.

Who should wait. Anyone looking for a viewing plan should wait. With no date, no episode count and no story details, there is little to act on today.

What is still unknown

The plot, the cast beyond Glover, the number of episodes, the production schedule, the premiere date and the Canadian and US release plans are all unannounced. The “in development” label also means the series is not confirmed for release.

What to do next

Follow the Netflix and KRAFTON newsrooms for a casting call, a production start or a date. Until then, the original PUBG: Battlegrounds is free to play if you want to see what the show will be built on.
