Nintendo’s Switch 2 The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition goes on sale on October 29, 2026, and it is already hard to find. When we checked on October 27, Best Buy Canada listed the console as sold out online, with delivery and in-store pickup both unavailable. Nintendo’s own store pages show the same October 29 release date and point shoppers to a “Find retailers” button instead of a buy button.
What is in the box
According to Nintendo, the package holds the Switch 2 system, a Joy-Con 2 pair in green and gold, a Joy-Con 2 Grip, two Joy-Con 2 straps, a dock and AC adapter, a USB-C charging cable and an Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. The dock is black and gold with a Triforce symbol. Nintendo states that the game is not included.
Gizmodo, which published a hands-on on October 2, 2026, says the left Joy-Con 2 is a darker green than the right and carries pixel art of Link holding the Triforce, and that the joysticks are gold instead of the usual blue and orange.
The listed hardware details are:
- 7.9-inch 1080p screen
- Up to 4K output when docked with a compatible TV and game, capped at 60 fps
- 256GB internal storage, expandable with microSD Express cards sold separately
- TV, Tabletop and Handheld play modes
Price in Canada and the US
Nintendo’s Canadian store page shows no price for this edition. It lists the standard Switch 2 system at $679.99, but that is a different product, and none of the sources we read confirm a Canadian price for the Zelda edition.
In the US, Gizmodo reports an MSRP of $519.99, which it says is $20 more than the standard $499.99 Switch 2. The matching Pro Controller is $99.99, and a version with a display stand is $109.99, according to Gizmodo.
Why it is hard to find
Gizmodo reported that preorders sold out in September and that Nintendo said it would restock at launch. On October 27, Best Buy Canada showed the console as sold out online, and Walmart Canada’s listing showed it out of stock. Nintendo’s pages do not call it a limited edition, and none of the sources give a unit count, so how much stock will reach stores is unknown.
What it means for you
If you want one, check Nintendo’s retailer finder, Best Buy Canada, Walmart Canada and Amazon on and after October 29, and make sure the listing is for the console sold by the retailer itself. Compare any price you see with the figures on Nintendo’s and the major retailers’ pages before you pay.
If you already own a Switch 2, the draw here is the design, the green and gold Joy-Con 2 and the Triforce dock. The game is sold separately, so budget for it if you want to play Zelda on day one.
