The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, rebuilt from the ground up for Nintendo Switch 2, launches on November 5, 2026, and it is already one of the hottest pre-orders of the season. The boxed Switch 2 edition sits near the top of Amazon.com’s Best Sellers chart for video games, two weeks before release.
Nintendo lists the game at $59.99 on its own US store. Notebookcheck reported that boxed copies were $69.99 at some retailers, while Walmart listed the cartridge at $59.99, a $10 saving, and Amazon matched it. Amazon’s listing also carries its Pre-order Price Guarantee.
What is new in this version
Nintendo describes the game as the classic story of Link, the Hero of Time, rebuilt for Switch 2 rather than a straight port. According to Nintendo, it brings:
- Completely overhauled visuals and full symphonic orchestral music
- Fully voiced cutscenes with expanded dialogue
- A jump and a dash, plus enhanced controls and modern camera movement
- A new Hall of Fallen Heroes, where you can study defeated monsters or fight them again
- Microphone play: hum a song Link has learned, or play it on a real instrument, and the in-game ocarina responds
The game also works with ZELDA NOTES in the Nintendo Switch App, which tracks daily accomplishments and lets you play an ocarina on your phone. Any existing Legend of Zelda amiibo unlocks in-game extras, and new Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo arriving in 2027 add masks with a retro look.
Why it is trending
Timing and nostalgia are doing the work. The release lands in the 40th anniversary year of the original Legend of Zelda, alongside a special edition Switch 2 system, and right before the holiday shopping rush. Notebookcheck noted that the first print run of the physical game has textured foil cover art, which is pushing collectors to lock in boxed pre-orders early.
Is it worth it, and who should buy it
Buy it if you never played Ocarina of Time, or if you want the story with modern controls and voice acting. Nintendo itself calls it an excellent entry point into the series.
If you already own the original on Nintendo Switch Online and only want the same game, wait for reviews: Notebookcheck pointed out that it is still debated how much of Hyrule has really been expanded.
Plan your storage too. Nintendo lists an estimated file size of 27 GB, so a digital copy may need a microSD Express card. The game is single player and supports TV, tabletop and handheld modes.
