The 8BitDo Ultimate 2 Wireless is a PC and mobile controller with TMR joysticks, switchable triggers and a charging dock in the box. It launched at $59.99 USD in February 2025, and 8BitDo’s own page lists no price today, so Canadian buyers need to check amazon.ca and the 8BitDo store directly.

8BitDo, a controller maker, sells it in white, black and purple, with a Clear Blue N64 30th Collection edition and a Green model sold only through its eShop. It shows up often in controller price cut coverage, so the specs and the price history are worth knowing before holiday sales start.

What does the Ultimate 2 Wireless offer?

According to 8BitDo’s page, the controller has:

  • TMR joysticks with a 12-bit ADC sampling chip
  • Triggers that switch between linear Hall Effect and non-linear tactile modes
  • 2 Pro back paddle buttons and remappable Fast Bumpers (L4/R4)
  • Tactile bumpers and D-pad, an Xbox layout, 6-axis motion control in 2.4G mode, turbo and vibration
  • A 1000Hz polling rate over 2.4G and wired connections
  • An RGB Fire Ring around each stick
  • A size of 147 x 103 x 61.3 mm and a weight of 246g

8BitDo says its 8Speed wireless technology reaches as low as 1ms latency and a range of 10m, and notes those are ideal environment lab figures. Real rooms will vary.

What is in the box and how do you set it up?

The package holds the controller, a charging dock, a 2.4G adapter with a USB-C plug, a USB cable and a manual. The dock auto reconnects the controller when you lift it off. Plug the dock, with the adapter inside, into a Windows PC and 8BitDo says it extends the wireless signal.

The 8BitDo Ultimate Software V2 handles button mapping, stick and trigger tuning, vibration, RGB, motion control, macros and firmware updates, and it stores 3 custom profiles.

Which devices does it work with?

The page lists Windows 10 (1903) or above, Android 13.0 or above, SteamOS 3.7.13 or above, and Apple iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, macOS and visionOS 26 or above. 2.4G and wired modes are for Windows, while Bluetooth covers Android and Apple devices. Time Extension noted at launch that Nintendo Switch is not listed as supported, unlike the first Ultimate controller, so console players should look at 8BitDo’s separate models.

How does it differ from the first Ultimate?

Time Extension reported that it is the first 8BitDo product with TMR (tunneling magnetoresistance) sticks, which 8BitDo says offer higher sensitivity, better precision and more durability. The first Ultimate used Hall Effect sticks. The new model also adds the RGB Fire Ring, L4 and R4 bumpers, 2 Pro back paddles and a trigger mode switch.

Prices

In Canada, 8BitDo’s page and the sources we read give no Canadian price. Check the amazon.ca listing and the 8BitDo eShop before you buy.

In the United States, Time Extension reported a $59.99 USD launch price. Notebookcheck wrote in September 2025 that the lowest price during Amazon’s Prime Day was $47.99, that the Black, Purple and White versions sat at $52.99 (12% off), and that the Purple one reached $47.69 with a coupon box ticked. That coupon expired October 1, and those are 2025 figures, not today’s. Prices can change at any time.

Who it suits

PC gamers. The 1000Hz polling rate over 2.4G and the dock make it a plug in and play pick for a desk setup.

Steam Deck and handheld players. SteamOS 3.7.13 or above is on the supported list, and Bluetooth covers Android and Apple devices.

Tinkerers. Back paddles, L4 and R4 bumpers, macros and 3 custom profiles reward people who like to remap controls.

Who should wait. If you need a Nintendo Switch controller, look at another 8BitDo model, since this one is not listed for Switch. If you want a bargain, watch the price rather than the launch figure.

What is still unknown?

The sources we read do not state battery life, and Time Extension did not mention it either. We also could not confirm a Canadian price or whether amazon.ca stocks every colour. Read 8BitDo’s page for the current compatibility list before you order.
