As cold weather returns, the NOCO Boost Plus GB40 is the top seller in its category on Amazon. On October 26, 2026, both Amazon.ca and Amazon.com labelled it the number one best seller in jump starters. NOCO lists it at $99.95, while the Amazon.ca listing showed C$129.98 when we checked.

What NOCO says it does

The GB40 is a lithium-ion pack rated at 1,000A and 12V. NOCO’s official page gives these main points:

  • Supports gas engines up to 6.0L and diesel engines up to 3.0L
  • Up to 20 jump starts per charge
  • A 100 lumen flashlight with 7 modes, including SOS and emergency strobe
  • A 10W USB-C input and a 2.1A USB output that NOCO says can recharge a smartphone up to 4 times
  • Spark-proof connections and reverse polarity protection
  • An IP65-rated, rubberized casing and a weight of 2.4 lbs

NOCO says a recharge over USB takes about 3 hours at 2.1A.

Prices in Canada and the US

NOCO’s page lists $99.95 in US dollars and does not state a Canadian price. On October 26, 2026, Amazon.ca showed C$129.98 for the same GB40 and Amazon.com showed $99.95. Retail prices change at any time. Automoblog put typical retail at about $130 in its review, not counting deals.

What a review found

Automoblog tested the GB40 in winter 2023 and called it a good pick for an emergency kit. Its reviewers list an operating range of -4°F to 122°F and a 24-watt-hour battery. A full charge took about three hours, and the unit held its charge longer than they expected. They did not verify NOCO’s 20 jump starts claim. The flashlight was useful in an ice and wind storm near Detroit, and the main complaint was short jumper cables. In the reviewers’ words, “the GB40 is something you would rather have and not need than need and not have.”

GB40 or a bigger model

NOCO’s comparison page lists two neighbours. The GB20 is rated at 500A for $79.95, supports gas engines up to 4.0L and does not recommend diesel. The GB50 is rated at 1500A for $149.95, supports gas engines up to 7.0L and diesel up to 4.5L, and has a 200 lumen flashlight. Automoblog says the more powerful GB70 exists, but the GB40 suffices for most owners.

Is it worth it?

The GB40 suits owners of cars and smaller SUVs whose engines fall inside NOCO’s limits. Check your engine size first. If you drive a larger gas truck or a diesel above 3.0L, look at the GB50 instead. A jump starter helps once the battery has already failed. NOCO also sells the Genius5, a plug-in smart charger and maintainer, for keeping a battery topped up. Read the manual before using any jump starter.
