Gears of War: E-Day can now be played on GeForce NOW, NVIDIA’s cloud gaming service. NVIDIA announced the addition on October 8, two days after the game’s global release on Steam and Xbox, as part of a weekly update that brings 10 games to the service, seven of them new releases.
A prequel set on Emergence Day
E-Day takes the series back 14 years before the original Gears of War. Players follow Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago through the first arrival of the Locust Horde, the event fans know as Emergence Day. The game includes a campaign along with cooperative and competitive modes.
On GeForce NOW, the game runs on NVIDIA’s servers and streams to your screen. Ultimate members get GeForce RTX 5080 class performance in the cloud, plus NVIDIA DLSS and NVIDIA Reflex support. The game is also available on Game Pass, according to NVIDIA.
The rest of this week’s list
NVIDIA lists these games joining the library this week:
- Gears of War: E-Day (Steam and Xbox, released Oct. 6)
- STAR WARS: Galactic Racer (Steam, released Oct. 6)
- Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival (Steam, released Oct. 8)
- Forever Ago (Steam, released Oct. 8)
- Order of the Sinking Star (Steam, released Oct. 8)
- Silver Pines (Steam, released Oct. 8)
- Permafrost (Steam, released Oct. 9)
- Graveyard Keeper 2 (Steam)
- Solasta II (Steam)
- Tyr (Steam)
NVIDIA notes that games are added through the week after they launch on their stores, so a title may not appear on the exact release date. It also says the Xbox version of Dune: Awakening did not arrive in September as it had planned, and that updates will follow.
Memberships coming to Fire TV
NVIDIA also says Fire TV users will soon be able to buy GeForce NOW memberships directly through Amazon. The company says this should be available in the coming weeks but did not give a date or say which countries are included.
What it means for you
Cloud streaming is the main appeal here. GeForce NOW runs on low power laptops, Macs, phones, handhelds and web browsers, so you can try a demanding new release like E-Day without a large download or an expensive gaming PC. You still need to own the game on Steam or Xbox, or have access through Game Pass.
If you are unsure about a membership, NVIDIA offers a day pass for premium cloud gaming. The company says the cost of the day pass can be applied toward a first monthly membership. Prices and Canadian details were not included in this announcement, so check the GeForce NOW website for current plans in your region before you sign up. A fast, stable home connection will make the biggest difference to how well the stream plays.
