Where Winds Meet’s Hutuo anniversary update reaches Xbox Series X|S on November 13 (PT), and everyone who logs in afterward can pick a free Outfit Set, according to publisher NetEase Games on Xbox Wire. The update centers on a new war campaign built around the Battle of Zhongdu Bridge.
The Dual Spears martial art is not part of day one. It arrives on November 26, later than the region itself.
What is in the Hutuo update?
Hutuo is described as an active warzone shaped by a sixteen-year conflict, with invading northern forces pushing toward the riverbanks. The campaign follows the Hutuo River Campaign and the defense of Zhongdu Bridge. NetEase says the story explores “Xia”, the idea that a person has a duty to protect the innocent when institutions fail.
Side quests show the war from ground level. You meet soldiers who choose conscience over orders, displaced families along the reed-lined rivers and villagers who shelter refugees.
Which bosses and weapons are new?
The post names three fights, each with advice from the publisher:
- Xiao Han, the general who closes the Hutuo River Campaign, wears Blood-forged Super Armor. The advice is to use high-impact parries, bait out his overextended thrusts and land stance-breaking counterstrikes before going for full damage.
- Bingshen, found at Moonveil Knoll, uses rapid gap-closers and sweeping area attacks. Dodging into his follow-up strikes, not away from them, creates openings.
- Yelu Abuli, a royal shaman, manipulates ceremonial fire. Staying mobile, interrupting channeled incantations and pulling hazards away from the center of the arena is the suggested approach.
Dual Spears was choreographed and motion captured under action director Yuen Woo-ping, whom Xbox Wire credits with “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”. Using the Dual-Weapon Skill mid-combo lets players weave light thrusts into heavy downward strikes without resetting attack frames. GamingBolt notes that despite the name you hold a single spear and switch between offense and defense.
What are the two new board game modes?
Both are playable across the Jianghu, the game’s world:
- Horse Racing Chess: you become a living game piece, roll dice, trigger Mystic Skills and race other players to the finish.
- Jianghu Tactics: a deeper mode that puts the Heroic Spirit roster on a tactical board. Positioning, gear allocation and character bonds decide the rounds.

- 42 Resonating Melody draws and 27 Lingering Melody draws through the events
Xbox Wire adds that more ongoing anniversary perks are coming for Game Pass members, without giving details.
