Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Year Two went live on November 3, 2026, adding a one-on-one Duel Mode, 15 new gadgets and a seventh gadget slot, while the base game is permanently cut to $39.99 USD, according to SEGA.
The update covers every platform the game is on: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as listed by Gematsu. SEGA’s own post on the PlayStation Blog, written by community manager Erin An, adds developer comments on the new features and on a set of vehicles inspired by classic consoles.
What is Duel Mode?
Duel Mode is a head-to-head format that replaces the usual 12-player pack with a single opponent. The dev team says it wanted a different kind of race, where distance to your rival and item use decide the result. Gematsu lists the details:
- A Duel Boost gauge that fills over time and through item use, then spends on bursts of speed
- A view of the opponent’s items, gadgets and race position
- Rival Duel Match: offline races against CPU rivals, with rewards that include a special machine
- Duel Match (Free Match): online matchmaking against random players
- Duel Match (Best-of-10): limited-time online events with special rules, Duel Class ranks and Medal rewards
- Friend Match: online races with custom rules, items and courses
What is the Super Slot?
A new Grand Master Plate adds a seventh slot, called the Super Slot, that only takes one-slot gadgets and strengthens their effect. SEGA’s developers say the idea is to open up more gadget combinations. Fifteen gadgets arrive on day one. Characters added since the September 25, 2025 launch, both free and paid, now also show up as CPU racers online and offline.
Which new characters and vehicles are coming?
Free characters are rolling out through the year, each with a themed Limited Time Event Festival that runs for ten days:
- Bayonetta: November 3, 2026, unlocked through Rival Duel matches
- McLaren Racing: later in November 2026, a speed-type machine with Sonic in McLaren’s Papaya and Anthracite livery
- Aigis: early 2027, an acceleration-type machine
The SEGA Consoles Pack adds the Genesis Tower US, SegaSaturn JP and Dreamcast EU machines. The developers say they translated rounded Dreamcast shapes into fenders and nose sections and angular Genesis and Saturn lines into body panels and hoods, and they recreated the Dreamcast Visual Memory Unit from period reference data. They add that the Genesis Tower US needed extra testing so it would not block the characters. The pack first appeared online as an April Fool’s joke, SEGA says.
What does Season Pass Two include?
Season Pass Two brings six paid packs, per Gematsu:
- Godzilla Pack: November 3, 2026
- EVANGELION Pack: January 2027
- Virtual Sanrio Puroland Pack: Q2 2027
- SEGALAND Pack: Q3 2027
- Midgar Pack (working title), based on the Final Fantasy VII Remake series: Q3 2027
- Reload Revival Royal Pack, based on the Persona series: Q4 2027
The pass also bundles the SEGA Controllers Decal Pack (from October 9, 2026) and the SEGA Consoles Pack (from November 3, 2026). Owners of both Season Pass One and Two get Super Shadow.
Prices
All prices below are in US dollars, as stated by SEGA on the PlayStation Blog and in the Gematsu report. Neither source lists prices for other countries or currencies.
- Standard Edition: $39.99 USD, permanently reduced from $69.99
- Digital Deluxe Edition: $59.99 USD, permanently reduced from $89.99
- Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition: $59.99 USD, with the Standard Edition and Season Pass Two
- Season Pass Two alone: $29.99 USD
- Year One Edition (physical): $59.99 USD at select retailers, with Season Pass One
The PlayStation Blog names PlayStation Store for the first three prices.
Who it suits
Players who skipped the game at launch. The permanent cut to $39.99 USD makes the Standard Edition the cheapest entry yet, and the Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition bundles the pass for $59.99 USD.
Current owners who like online play. The free update brings Duel Mode and the Super Slot without a purchase, and the free characters arrive without a pass.
Collectors of crossover content. Season Pass Two carries Godzilla, EVANGELION, Hello Kitty, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Persona material, with several packs not due until 2027. Buy it for the full list, not for what ships on day one.
Owners of the standard game who want the pass. Gematsu notes that existing owners do not need the Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition, since it would duplicate the Standard Edition.
What is still unknown?
The sources give no regional prices outside US dollars, no end date for the new Festival events beyond their ten day length, and no final name for the Midgar Pack. Dates for the later packs are quarters, not days.
Next step: check the game’s page on your platform’s store for local pricing, and read the PlayStation Blog post for the developer notes.
