Snuggly, an iPhone app that lets expecting parents listen to and record a baby’s heartbeat, is currently listed as Free on its App Store page. The developer, Lunasonic Inc, describes the app as “FREE for a limited time”. The page does not say when the offer ends.

What the app does

According to its App Store description, Snuggly uses only the iPhone microphone. There are no accessories, no extra devices and no subscription. The developer says an algorithm isolates and amplifies fetal heartbeat sounds, and that users can record the sound and share it with family and friends.

The listing is iPhone only. Lunasonic says the metal frame of the iPhone makes clean contact with skin, which helps the microphone pick up quiet sounds. The developer also says more than 11,000 families use the app.

Price and what is free

The App Store page lists the price as Free, and the page data shows a price of zero for both Canada (in Canadian dollars) and the United States (in US dollars). The description calls the app a one-time purchase with no subscription. The listing also notes in-app purchases but does not spell out what they cover, so check the page before you buy anything inside the app.

A French app news site, iPhoneAddict, also reported the app as free and described the offer as a promotion. We could not find a regular price on the Canadian or US App Store page, so we are not quoting one.

How to use it, according to the developer

Lunasonic gives these steps:

  • Find a quiet room and remove the phone case.
  • Place the iPhone microphone flat against the lower belly.
  • Move slowly, then tap Record when the heartbeat is found.
  • Share the recording with a partner, family or friends.

The developer suggests headphones, lying down with a relaxed belly, and patience, saying most mothers find the heartbeat on the second or third attempt. It says the app works best from week 22 of pregnancy, and that detection before then is possible but less consistent.

The disclaimer to read first

The official listing is clear on one point. In its words, Snuggly is “a wellness and bonding app, not a medical device”. It is not meant for diagnosis or to replace medical advice. The developer tells users to consult a healthcare provider about any concern and to contact a doctor or midwife right away if they worry about the baby’s movements or health. The app is not a substitute for a check-up, and hearing nothing in a session does not mean anything on its own.

What it means for you

If you want to try it, the offer is on the App Store now, and with no end date stated it could change at any time. To get it, open the App Store on your iPhone, search for Snuggly: Record Baby Heartbeat by Lunasonic Inc, and tap Get while it still shows Free. Prices and offers can differ by region, so confirm what your own App Store shows.

Reviews on the page are mixed, with some parents saying it took a few tries and one reviewer saying they heard only noise. Treat it as a keepsake tool rather than a way to check on your baby’s health.
