Guinan, the El-Aurian bartender played by Whoopi Goldberg in Star Trek, now has her own Magic: The Gathering card, “Guinan, Ancient Advisor”, in the Federation Fleet Commander deck. The deck is part of the Magic: The Gathering x Star Trek crossover and goes on sale in tabletop form on November 13, 2026.

Screen Rant, whose report was shared on Steam News, says the card shows Goldberg’s character and calls it an official return. The report does not describe any new performance by the actress, so this is a card appearance, not a new screen role. Wizards of the Coast’s own deck list page names the card but does not mention Goldberg.

What is the Federation Fleet deck?

Federation Fleet is one of four Star Trek Commander decks. It is led by Jean-Luc Picard, Luminary, and plays in blue, red and white. Wizards of the Coast lists Captain Janeway, Endgame as an alternative commander.

  • 100 cards: one foil commander with borderless art and 99 non-foil cards
  • 10 double-sided tokens
  • A reference card and a deck box
  • A Collector’s Edition version with every card in surge foil

Other characters named in the deck include Beverly Crusher, Miles O’Brien and Kathryn Janeway, according to the reports. The other three decks are Landing Party, led by Spock, Klingon Fury, led by Worf, and We Are the Borg, led by the Borg Queen. Wizards says the Commander decks include 32 new-to-Magic cards. The sources do not agree on whether that figure is per deck or in total, so check the deck list before you buy for a particular card.

What does Guinan, Ancient Advisor do?

According to Screen Rant, Guinan is a rare Legendary Creature, El-Aurian Advisor, with a mana cost of three that includes one white. She is a 1/4, and the art is by Nicky Barkla. The ability lets a player pay one mana and tap her to put a +1/+1 counter on each creature they control that entered the battlefield this turn. If at least two counters are placed, that player also draws a card. Screen Rant says the card carries a line of dialogue from the character as flavor text.

The card suits the deck’s theme. Federation Fleet is built around drawing cards and adding counters, and Guinan does both. The Gamer’s deck guide, by contrast, describes the deck as focused on drawing, counters and Spacecraft, and rates it as one dimensional.

When does it release?

Wizards of the Coast says the Commander decks, the Collector’s Edition decks and more release on November 13, 2026, with preorders open through local stores, TCGplayer, Amazon and other retailers. ComicBook.com says prerelease events run from November 6 to November 12. Screen Rant adds that the digital version arrives on MTG Arena on November 10. Wizards’ deck list page does not mention Arena, so confirm that date on the official Arena channels.

How much does it cost?

ComicBook.com lists the standard Commander deck at $74.99 MSRP, and Screen Rant gives about $75. Screen Rant puts the Premium Collector’s Edition at about $160. ComicBook.com says an Amazon listing for the Collector’s Edition was available only from resellers, with TCGplayer market values around $200.

At the time of ComicBook.com’s report, Amazon showed a preorder price of $71.74 for Federation Fleet. The sources show dollar prices without naming a country or currency, and they give no prices for other markets. Prices for the Arena version have not been reported. Prices can change at any time.

Who it suits

Star Trek fans. The deck puts Picard, his Next Generation crew and characters from Deep Space Nine and Voyager in one 100 card product, so it works as a collectible even for people who rarely play.

New Commander players. The deck comes ready to play, with the commander, tokens, a reference card and a deck box included, so you do not need to build a deck first.

Collectors. The Collector’s Edition has every card in surge foil, but it costs much more, and its availability looks limited on Amazon according to ComicBook.com.

Who should wait. If you want a particular card, or want to see how the deck plays, wait for full reviews. The Gamer’s guide is cool on its power level, and the Arena price is not known.

What is still unknown?

None of the sources says that Goldberg took part in the card, approved a likeness or recorded anything. Pricing outside the dollar figures quoted, and the cost of the Arena version, are also not stated.
