2 Ton Studios, the developer of Unto the End, has revealed Magenta Down, an atmospheric science fiction adventure set on a hostile exoplanet. The game was shown during the ID@Xbox showcase on October 20, 2026, and is coming in 2027 to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC. Gematsu reports that the PC version will be sold through Steam and the Microsoft Store.

Stranded with a scattered crew

The setup is simple. Your ship has crashed, your crew is spread across the surface of a remote planet, and supplies are limited. The goal is to find the others and get off the planet alive.

Writing on Xbox Wire, studio co-founder Stephen Danton says the team wanted a journey about pushing forward and living with the results of your decisions. You have to manage your condition while dealing with the planet’s weather and radiation, and choose where to head next. Flashing lights often mark a downed supply pod, while a rebooted antenna array can point you toward the next industrial outpost.

Storms are a real threat. Getting caught in one raises your radiation exposure and cuts your visibility, so finding shelter becomes urgent as the Geiger counter crackles. Some routes also lead through a decommissioned mining facility.

Creatures and combat

The planet’s creatures are fast and dangerous when provoked. According to the developer, combat is about holding your ground and choosing the right moment to strike, not precise aiming or complex button inputs. The studio says this keeps the tension high while staying accessible.

The game also gives you ways to prepare. You can gather information at a crash site or facility before setting out, use scarce supplies carefully and watch your surroundings. The Steam listing describes Magenta Down as a short, single player adventure.

What it means for you

If you liked tense, slower paced survival stories with a strong mood, Magenta Down is worth adding to your wishlist on the Xbox store or Steam. The focus on careful decisions rather than reflex shooting may also suit players who usually avoid action heavy games.

There is no exact release date or price yet. Steam currently lists the release date as to be announced, and 2 Ton Studios says it will share more as launch gets closer. An announcement trailer is available on the official Xbox YouTube channel.
