ImageSweep, an iPhone and iPad app for clearing out old photos, is listed as Free on the US App Store. The Hong Kong site New Mobile Life reported on November 7, 2026 that its usual price is US $0.99. Neither the listing nor the report gives an end date for the free price, so it can change at any time.
What is ImageSweep?
It is a manual photo cleanup tool from the developer Jörg Bleymehl, and the listing is blunt about what it is not. The description says ImageSweep is not an automatic cleaner and does not judge your pictures or delete anything in the background. Instead you build a review session, go through it quickly and decide for yourself.
The listing also promises no ads and no user account, and the developer’s privacy label says no data is collected from the app. Apple notes that such labels are supplied by the developer and have not been verified by Apple.
How does a cleanup session work?
You first choose what to review. The app lets you pick photos by day, month, custom period, album or location, and the version history adds that you can also select by year or by year and month, and that keyword search was added in version 1.03 on June 3. Screenshots and other media categories can be cleaned up separately, and the developer points to old photo periods, travel albums, screenshots, bursts, panoramas and RAW images as the collections that tend to pile up.
Then you work through the selection in one of two views:
- Grid: select several photos at once to mark them.
- Full screen: swipe to move through pictures, inspect each one and mark the ones you no longer need.
Marked photos land in a single delete list. You review that list once more, and nothing is removed until you confirm. At that point the app uses the standard iOS Photos deletion flow, so the final step is the one you already know from the Photos app.
How do you get it for free?
- Open the App Store on an iPhone or iPad and search for ImageSweep by Jörg Bleymehl, or use the official listing.
- Check that the button says Get rather than showing a price. The US storefront showed Free when we looked, and the German storefront showed Kostenlos, but the sources do not describe other regions.
- Tap Get. The listing says the app needs iOS 17.0 or later on iPhone or iPadOS 17.0 or later on iPad, and it takes up 69.6 MB.
- Open the app, grant access to your photo library when asked, and choose a period, album, location or media type to review.
The listing is rated 4+ in the Photo & Video category and supports English and German. It also shows compatibility with Macs that have an Apple M1 chip or later, running macOS 14.0 or later, and with Apple Vision running visionOS 1.0 or later. Apple labels it as designed for iPad and not verified for macOS.
What is the catch?
Nothing in the sources points to a subscription, account or advertising, which is unusual for a free utility. The caveats are practical:
- No end date is stated for the free price, and the paid price returns whenever the developer decides.
- The app is manual by design, so it will not shrink your library on its own. It suits people willing to sit through a review session.
- It is a young app. The version history starts at 1.0 on May 19, version 1.02 on May 20 expanded time selection, and the latest listed update is 1.03 on June 3. The listing says it has not received enough ratings to show an overview.
New Mobile Life describes the app as a fit for people who want to tidy old albums, travel photos or screenshots, which matches the developer’s own description.
Who should download it?
Anyone with a camera roll full of screenshots, bursts and travel photos they keep meaning to sort will get the most from it, particularly if they distrust tools that decide for them. Because the app only works through the standard Photos deletion flow and asks for a final confirmation, it suits cautious users. If you want a one tap automatic cleaner, this is not that, and the developer says so itself.
Since it costs nothing right now, the only real expense is the time you spend in a review session. Back up photos you care about before any large cleanup, as you would with any app that edits your library.
Next step: open the ImageSweep listing on the App Store, confirm the price still reads Free and then tap Get.
