Baby Monitor Hush 5G, an iPhone and iPad app that turns two Apple devices into a private baby monitor, is currently listed as free on the App Store in both Canada and the United States. Hong Kong app site New Mobile Life spotted the offer and reported that the app normally sells for US $0.99. Neither the App Store listing nor the developer, Jeroen Meijer, gives an end date, so the price could change at any time.

What the app does

Hush works with two devices. One sits near the crib as the Baby Station, and the other stays with you as the Parent Station. On home Wi-Fi, video and audio travel directly between the two over your own network. According to the App Store listing, the features include:

  • Live video with two way audio, so you can talk to or soothe your baby
  • Sound alerts with adjustable sensitivity
  • A night light and soothing sounds such as white noise, soft chimes and rain
  • Alerts personalized with your baby’s name
  • An overnight activity log that stays on your device

The “5G” part of the name refers to remote viewing. When you are away from home, the Parent Station can connect over mobile data or another Wi-Fi network. The developer says it starts with audio only to save data, and one tap turns on the camera. It switches between Wi-Fi and mobile data by itself, and audio and video are encrypted between the two devices. An off-grid mode links the devices through one phone’s Personal Hotspot, which the developer suggests for a cabin or a campsite.

Privacy and the catches

The listing promises no subscription, no account and no ads, and the App Store page shows no in-app purchases. The developer’s privacy policy describes Hush 5G as a one-time purchase and says remote connections use a small relay service run on Cloudflare. According to that policy, the developer does not record, store or listen to your audio or video.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • You need two Apple devices. The app requires iOS 17.0 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 17.0 or later on iPad.
  • Remote viewing uses your mobile data plan.
  • The app is brand new and has no ratings or reviews yet.

How to get it

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad and search for “Baby Monitor Hush 5G” from developer Jeroen Meijer.
  2. Check that the price shows Free before you tap Get.
  3. Install it on both devices, then set one as the Baby Station and the other as the Parent Station.

Apps you claim while they are free generally stay in your App Store purchase history, so you can reinstall later even if the price goes back up.

What it means for Canadian and US readers

The free price shows on both the Canadian and the US App Store. If you have an old iPhone or iPad sitting in a drawer, this is a low cost way to try a camera monitor without buying new hardware. Test the alert sensitivity and the connection at home before you count on it overnight.
