Housemarque released the Zenith update for Saros on October 19, and it costs nothing extra for anyone who already owns the game. The developer says it had two aims: give finished players a reason to come back, and make the PS5 action game easier for newcomers to pick up.
The update was first announced in September, when Push Square reported that it was coming later in 2026 without a firm date.
New ways to make Saros easier
Saros is known for screens full of enemy fire, and Housemarque chose not to remove projectiles to lower the difficulty. Instead, Zenith adds a Slow Game Speed setting. You pick how much the game slows down, and you can have it switch on automatically in combat or toggle it by hand.
Other additions for new players:
- Auto-fire, which shoots your weapon automatically when you aim at an enemy. Reloading still needs a well timed button press.
- Motion Sensor Aiming, which works alongside the existing button remapping.
- 10 new Protection Modifiers that make the game more forgiving, including one that turns built up Corruption into extra melee damage.
More challenge for veterans
Players who already finished the game get 10 new Trial Modifiers that raise the difficulty. One of them, Hostile Regeneration, lets larger enemies recover from a stun unless you finish them with a melee strike.
The biggest addition is Eclipse Layers, a New Game+ mode that unlocks after you clear Saros. Each layer is a harder version of the game, and you must pick enough Trial Modifiers before you start. Housemarque says there are 25 different Trials to choose from. While you play this mode, the hero Arjun wears a crown that grows as you take on more Trials, and the crown reveals 12 Visions, new story collectibles hidden across Carcosa.
Overlord Rush and leaderboards
Overlord Rush is a boss rush mode reached from the hub area. It is split into Sets: Incursion and Ascension each hold three Overlords and take about 10 minutes, while Totality lines up all eight Overlords in a row. Scores go on a global leaderboard that you can filter by main weapon. Housemarque notes that the leaderboard needs an internet connection and a PlayStation account.
Zenith also adds new trophies, according to the developer.
What it means for you
If you bought Saros and stopped because it felt too hard, Slow Game Speed and Auto-fire are worth a second try, since they keep the full bullet patterns but give you more time to react. If you already beat it, Eclipse Layers and Overlord Rush add real replay value at no cost. The update makes the game suit a wider range of skill levels than before.
