Linejots, a journaling app for iPhone and iPad, is free to download on the App Store right now. Hong Kong app site New Mobile Life spotted the offer on October 19 and says the app normally costs US $0.99. The developer has not posted an end date, so the price could go back up at any time.
The idea is simple: instead of writing a full diary entry, you write one sentence a day.
How Linejots works
You tap a day on the calendar, write up to 280 characters, and add an emoji or a photo if you like. That is the whole routine. At the end of each month, a recap pulls your entries together into a short, readable summary of the month.
The developer, Robert Corbin, lists these other features in the App Store release notes:
- A tone label for each line (Bright, Even or Heavy), worked out on the phone itself, plus mood trends over time
- Hashtags read from your sentences, with a tag cloud you can browse
- Year in Words, which shows your most used words across the year, and a Year in Pixels grid
- An optional daily reminder and an On This Day view that shows past entries from the same date
- A daily writing prompt, drawn from 60 offline prompts
- Export to PDF, CSV or plain text
- Face ID, Touch ID or passcode lock
Privacy is the main selling point
According to the App Store listing, Linejots keeps entries on the device. There is no account, no social feed, no ads, no analytics and no subscription, and the developer states that the app collects no data. Apple notes that these privacy answers come from the developer and have not been verified by Apple.
Because entries stay on the device, it is worth using the export options from time to time so you have a backup if you change phones.
How to get it
- Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad and search for Linejots, or use the official link in our sources.
- Check that the price shows as free before you tap Get.
- Once you have it, the app stays in your purchase history even after the offer ends.
Linejots needs iOS 17.0 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 17.0 or later on iPad. It also runs on Macs with an Apple M1 chip or later on macOS 14.0 or later. The app is in English only and is about 4.6 MB.
Who it suits
This is a good fit if you have tried journaling before and given up because it took too long. One line a day takes seconds, and the monthly recap and On This Day view make old entries easy to revisit. If you want long entries, cloud sync across devices or sharing with friends, a full featured journal app will serve you better. The app is also new and has very few ratings so far, so treat this as a free chance to try it rather than a proven pick.
