Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19 on PlayStation 5, and players who have pre-ordered can start pre-downloading it from November 10 at local midnight, according to PlayStation Blog. Sony Interactive Entertainment asks players to clear a minimum of 212GB of storage on the console first.
The post, published on November 3, 2026, is a four-step checklist for launch day. It comes from PlayStation rather than Rockstar Games, so it covers the PS5 side of the release.
When can you pre-download Grand Theft Auto VI?
PlayStation says pre-download timing is available to anyone who has pre-ordered, starting at November 10 local midnight. That means the window opens at midnight in your own time zone, not at a single global moment.
There is a wrinkle worth knowing. When Rockstar announced pre-orders in June 2026, its press release said digital pre-orders could pre-load starting November 12, 2026. The newer PlayStation post gives November 10. The two pages differ, so go with the latest one from the platform holder and check your PlayStation Store page for the exact time before you plan around it.
What should you do before launch?
PlayStation lays out four steps:
- Set up your PlayStation account. New players should create an account and sign in on the console. Existing players should confirm that their sign-in details and account information are up to date.
- Pre-order the game. Pre-orders are available through PlayStation Store or participating retailers, so you can play as soon as the game becomes available on November 19.
- Get ready to pre-download. Clear at least 212GB on your PS5. PlayStation also points to options for extending PS5 storage.
- Complete your PS5 setup. The post mentions accessories including the DualSense Edge wireless controller, the PlayStation Pulse wireless headset and Pulse Elevate wireless speakers.
The 212GB figure is the single most useful number in the post. It is the space to free up, and it is large enough that many players will need to delete games or add storage before the download can finish.
Which editions are there?
PlayStation mentions the Grand Theft Auto VI: Ultimate Edition, which it says adds an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel and action woven through the story of Jason and Lucia. It sends readers to the PlayStation Store product page for the full list of editions, pricing and details.
Rockstar’s June release names a Standard Edition and the Ultimate Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It says the physical version contains a download code in the box and is also available from November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading. It also says pre-orders and purchases made before November 20, 2026 include the Vintage Vice City Pack, and digital pre-orders include one free month of GTA+.
Prices
PlayStation’s post does not list a price and points to the PlayStation Store. Rockstar’s June release lists the Standard Edition at $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition at $99.99. That release uses the dollar symbol without naming a currency or country, so treat those figures as a reference and read the price shown in your own PlayStation Store. Prices in other currencies are not stated in the sources we used.
Who it suits
Players who want to start on day one. Pre-ordering and pre-downloading means the game is on your console when it unlocks on November 19. The only thing left is the free space.
Players with a nearly full PS5. A 212GB requirement is a real obstacle. Start clearing space now, because a large download can take a long time on a slow connection, and PlayStation does not say how long it will take.
Buyers who prefer a disc. Rockstar says the physical version contains a download code, not a game disc, so you still need space and a connection to install it.
Who should wait. If you are unsure about the game or about your storage, you can hold off. PlayStation says more details will come later this year, and the ratings status in Rockstar’s June release said the game was not yet rated at that time.
What is still unknown?
The PlayStation post does not say how large the day one patch might be, how long the pre-download will take, or what any other platform requires. It also leaves the exact edition prices to the store. For the final word on timing, size and cost, check the PlayStation Store product page and the PlayStation Blog before November 10.
